Avila is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Royals, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Avila has just three hits in his past 18 at-bats, so he'll head to the bench for a night off. John Hicks will take over behind the dish in his stead.

EDGE Analysis

Avila is back in the lineup for the first game of Friday's doubleheader against the White Sox, batting second and playing first base.
EDGE Analysis
The 30-year-old wasn't scheduled for an off day Thursday after sustaining a left hand injury Wednesday, but ended up filling in for the injured James McCann, who subsequently was placed on the 10-day DL with a hand laceration. The sudden turn of events means Avila will be in line for the lion's share of starts behind the plate and give him further opportunities to prove his worth as an everyday starter. He's off to a great start thus far, batting .310 with 10 RBI and a .953 OPS this month. Avila takes the spot of Miguel Cabrera at first base for the opening game Friday, as John Hicks fills in behind the dish.

Avila had his left hand wrapped in ice following Wednesday's win over the Astros, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Avila sustained the injury when he was called for catcher's interference, though he was able to finish the contest behind the dish. "I figured if something broke, I wouldn't have been able to catch," Avila said. "I'm just a little sore." According to Jason Beck of MLB.com, Avila said he'd be available for Thursday's series finale against Houston, though it's likely he'll take a seat in favor of James McCann regardless.

Avila is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Astros.
EDGE Analysis
Avila has been scorching hot at the plate, but he'll get the night off on the heels of a four-strikeout performance Monday night. James McCann will resume his normal role behind the dish. With both Miguel Cabrera and Victor Martinez back in action and McCann still tabbed as the primary catcher, Avila may find it difficult to find playing time despite his hot streak.

Avila went 2-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI in Thursday's win over the Orioles.
EDGE Analysis
Avila hasn't been in the lineup every day, but he's hitting when he's in there. The veteran is batting .377 with an eye-popping 1.151 OPS. Both numbers are likely to fall (career .243 average, .752 OPS), but Avila is worth riding for however long he stays hot.

Avila is out of the lineup Sunday against the Angels.
EDGE Analysis
Avila was a popular pickup in deep and AL-only leagues after slashing .409/.509/.727 over his first 44 at-bats of the season, but his playing time has fallen by the wayside in May with the Tigers getting Miguel Cabrera back from the disabled list and James McCann offering improved production behind the plate. With McCann drawing another start Sunday, Avila will find himself on the bench for the seventh time in nine games.

Avila is out of the lineup Sunday against the Athletics.
EDGE Analysis
Avila has started to carve out more playing time, getting three starts in the last four games. He'll take a seat Sunday, however, while James McCann mans the backstop in his stead.

Making the start at first base, Avila went 1-for-3 with a walk and two RBI in Monday's win over the Indians.
EDGE Analysis
Avila has appeared at first base a few times this season, and he could get some more starts there on occasion, although Miguel Cabrera is due back soon. Either way, Avila is swinging a hot bat, and it appears manager Brad Ausmus wants to find ways to get it into the lineup.

Avila went 3-for-5 with a homer, a walk and three runs against the Mariners on Tuesday.
EDGE Analysis
With that nice piece of the Tigers' 19-run outburst, Avila's now hitting a stunning .407 with four homers over his first 27 at-bats. That's new ground for the veteran backstop, who's started picking up work at first base this year; he started at first and hit sixth Tuesday. This outburst can't be ignored, but Avila should still be approached with caution because we haven't seen him do anything remotely like this since 2011.
