Avila will catch and bat seventh Monday against the Royals, Jeffrey Flanagan of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Tigers aren't resting any regulars in the series opener, so it appears that Avila's move from the No. 2 to No. 7 spot in the order could be more than a one-time arrangement. It's difficult to argue with manager Brad Ausmus' decision to switch things up, as Avila has accrued just two hits in his last 22 at-bats, while Alex Presley, who will hit second Monday, is coming off back-to-back three-hit games.

Avila is out of the lineup Sunday against the Twins, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Twins are bringing the left-handed Adalberto Mejia to the hill, so Avila will bow out of the lineup for the second time in four games, opening up a start at catcher for James McCann. Third baseman Nick Castellanos will move into the two hole while Avila is on the bench.

Avila is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against Kansas City, Evan Woodbery of the MLive Media Group reports.
EDGE Analysis
With left-hander Danny Duffy going up against the Tigers, Avila will head to the bench in favor of James McCann. Avila went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts during Wednesday's contest, and gets a rest for the fourth time in the past six games.

Avila is out of Tuesday's lineup against the Royals, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
EDGE Analysis
He has started 11 of the last 12 games, and has emerged as a trade target for competing teams, most notably the Chicago Cubs. James McCann will start behind the dish and hit eighth.

Avila will start at catcher and bat eighth Monday against the Royals, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Manager Brad Ausmus usually resists keeping Avila in the lineup against lefty pitchers, but the catcher will draw the start Monday due to his previous success against Royals southpaw Jason Vargas. In 16 career at-bats versus the left-hander, Avila has produced five hits, including two home runs.

Avila is out of the lineup Sunday against the Blue Jays.
EDGE Analysis
Avila's absence from the lineup Saturday wasn't surprising with lefty Francisco Liriano starting for the Blue Jays, but it's more of a mystery why the high-performing catcher is sitting Sunday with right-hander Marco Estrada on the mound for the opposition. Perhaps manager Brad Ausmus just wanted to keep most of the Tigers' starting nine from Saturday's 11-run eruption intact for a second straight game, as James McCann receives another nod behind the plate.

Avila is not in the lineup for game one of Saturday's doubleheader against Cleveland.
EDGE Analysis
Avila will sit after starting the past two games behind the dish. With the doubleheader on tap for Detroit on Saturday, it was to be expected that the 30-year-old would sit one of the games, as he's likely to be back in the lineup for the second contest.

Avila went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's loss to the Royals.
EDGE Analysis
Avila and Miguel Cabrera supplied all the offense for the struggling Tigers in this one with solo shots. Avila now has 11 home runs in just 159 at-bats (he had seven in 169 at-bats all of last season) to go along with an absurd 1.032 OPS, which would be a career best. The veteran is probably due for some regression, but the Tigers are giving him regular rest days against left-handed starters, which should keep him fresher and give him more advantageous matchups.
