Wainwright took a no-decision after allowing two runs on six hits and three walks with eight strikeouts in six innings against the Pirates on Sunday.
EDGE Analysis
Wainwright's 2016 was a disappointment, but he went out on a high note. The eight strikeouts were his most in a start since July 7, and Sunday marked his first start since August 30 where he did not allow a homer. The 35-year-old showed significant signs of decline this season after missing most of last year with an Achilles injury. His 220 hits allowed and 102 earned runs were the most in the National League, while his 4.62 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 3.93 FIP were all career-worsts (excluding 2005, when he pitched only two innings). Wainwright will look to bounce back next year.

Wainwright (13-9) allowed five runs on 10 hits and two walks with six strikeouts over 5.2 innings Tuesday against the Reds.
EDGE Analysis
Wainwright has given up fewer than four runs just once in his last five starts. His struggles continued Tuesday, as he was touched up for two home runs, but luckily his offense provided him eight runs of support before he was chased. Wainwright's 4.67 ERA marks the first time he has gone over the 4.00 mark as a starting pitcher.

Wainwright (12-9) allowed four runs on seven hits and two walks with four strikeouts over 5.1 innings but still took home the win Tuesday against the Rockies.
EDGE Analysis
Wainwright struggled at Coors Field, as many do. The Rockies tagged him for three home runs, bringing Wainwright's season total to 20 for the first time in his 11-year career. By no coincidence, his 4.57 ERA is a career worst.

Wainwright (11-9) gave up four runs on nine hits and three walks with just two strikeouts over 5.2 innings in Thursday's loss to the Giants.
EDGE Analysis
Every time Wainwright turns in a strong outing that makes you think he's turning the corner, he follows it up with a dud. This has been the story of Wainwright's season -- strikeouts down, walks up, and a huge spike in hard contact by opposing hitters. That's stopped him from picking up any momentum, and a start in Colorado next week doesn't seem likely to help him turn things around.

Wainwright (11-8) was the winning pitcher in Saturday's 5-1 victory over the Brewers, tossing eight innings of one run ball, surrendering six hits and four walks while striking out seven.
EDGE Analysis
Despite giving up a solo shot in the fifth, Wainwright's veteran poise helped keep his club in the tight contest, as the right-hander pitched out of second and seventh inning jams and relied on strong defense to outlast the Brewers' bullpen collapse in the bottom half of the eighth where the Cardinals scored five runs to hand the 35-year-old his second win in as many starts and his first at home since July 16. While Wainwright sports an inflated 4.45 ERA over 29 starts, in truth, his 3.65 FIP is a stronger indicator of his performance this season.

Wainwright (10-8) pitched five innings Monday, allowing four runs on seven hits and a walks while striking out five and earning the win in a 12-6 game against the Pirates.
EDGE Analysis
Wainwright didn't have his best stuff Monday, but kept his team in the game and earned his 10th win on the back of a St. Louis offensive onslaught that featured eight extra-base hits and four multi-run innings. Despite the win, Monday's start was a bit disappointing considering it came on the heels of a seven-inning, three-hit gem his last time out. Wainwright just hasn't been as sharp in his age-35 season, and is now sporting a career-high 4.61 ERA with less than a month left in the season. While he' still sporting a 3:1 K:BB ratio, opponents are hitting .282 off Wainwright this season, easily the highest rate of his career.

Wainwright allowed just one run on three hits and struck out seven over seven innings but was stuck with a no-decision Tuesday against the Brewers.
EDGE Analysis
Wainwright's winless streak is now up to eight starts, but this was by a wide margin his best start in this otherwise rough streak. This was just his second quality start out of those eight, and the first time he was walked fewer than two batters since July 27 against the Mets. This is about as close to his old start as we've seen Wainwright all season long, but the Brewers lineup has been awful since the trade deadline, and this start should be taken with a grain of salt as such; his ERA still sits at a rough 4.53.

Wainwright (9-8) allowed seven runs -- only two of them earned -- on nine hits and two walks over five innings in Thursday's loss to the Mets.
EDGE Analysis
The Cardinals played some woeful defense in this one, and the Mets made them pay for it. But that's not to excuse Wainwright, who struggled against the Mets for the second time within the span of a month. We keep waiting for him to turn the corner and it keeps not happening, but a start against the Brewers on Tuesday at least represents a more promising matchup.

Wainwright didn't factor into the decision Friday versus the Phillies but turned in a quality start, giving up three earned runs on five hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out five.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran righty bounced back nicely after lasting only two innings against the Cubs last Friday. Wainwright did get into trouble early by giving up an RBI-double to Freddy Galvis in the first and then was touched up for back-to-back solo blasts by Odubel Herrera and Galvis in the sixth. It was Wainwright's first quality start in his last three trips to the mound and he'll try to keep the momentum going against the Mets next Thursday.

Wainwright (9-7) surrendered seven earned runs on six hits and three walks over two innings in Friday's 13-2 loss to the Cubs. He struck out two.
EDGE Analysis
There was a stretch this summer where it looked like Wainwright had turned his season around, but he seems to once again be on a downward slide. The outing was by far his shortest of the season and he's now surrendered 13 earned runs on 15 hits and six walks over the eight innings covering his last two starts. The 34-year-old has dropped both of those decisions and will look to get things turned around when he takes on the Phillies next Friday.
