Eaton (knee) was officially diagnosed with a "full thickness" ACL tear, meniscus tear and a high ankle sprain Sunday, Mark Zuckerman of MASN Sports reports. He's expected to be out six-to-nine months.

Sunday's injury diagnosis suggests that it is highly unlikely that Eaton is able to return at any point during the 2017 season after tearing up his knee during Friday's game against the Mets. General manager Mike Rizzo said that the team likes its in-house options at center field, so it appears that Michael Taylor will serve as Eaton's replacement going forward.

Setting the table for the Nationals has been a fantasy dream, and it's been the catalyst for a monster start to the season from Eaton. The veteran outfielder isn't going to pile up home runs or stolen bases, but he's got a shot to lead the majors in runs, and his ability to tilt the scales across all five categories is extremely valuable.

The move to the nation's capital has definitely agreed with Eaton, as the 28-year-old is slashing .327/.429/.481 through 14 games with 14 runs scored and three steals. Trea Turner (hamstring) is close to returning to action, which could bump Eaton out of the leadoff spot, but even as the Nats' two-hole hitter he should still keep crossing the plate with remarkable frequency.

In 26 at-bats since moving into the leadoff spot, Eaton's now hitting .385/.433/.500.
