Eaton (knee) appeared to face no limitations during Tuesday's voluntary workout, as the outfield shagged fly balls in left field, went through defensive drills and took batting practice, Jamal Collier of MLB.com reports. "He's coming along," Nationals manager Dave Martinez said of Eaton. "He wants to play [Wednesday] if he could. But like I said, for us, it's about getting ready for Opening Day and we'll take one day at a time. He's progression is great. He worked out with the outfielders. He felt really part of the team today taking BP and everything."
EDGE Analysis
As anticipated, Eaton appears to be in fine condition after he was limited to just 23 games in his first season with Washington upon tearing the ACL in his left knee last April. Martinez's comments suggest that the Nationals will limit Eaton's workload during Grapefruit League play, but he should be ready for everyday duties once Opening Day arrives. Moving from center to left field this season should help Eaton from a durability standpoint, but coming off a major knee injury, there's a decent chance the 29-year-old is less aggressive as a basestealer compared to prior seasons.

Eaton (knee) said Monday that he has received clearance for spring training after he was able to run, hit and perform change-of-direction work during the offseason, though the Nationals could be cautious of overworking him during Grapefruit League play, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports. "The biggest thing is to kind of get [Eaton] to realize that, hey, we want him ready for Opening Day," Nationals manager Dave Martinez said. "He's going to get opportunities to play in spring training a lot, but we want him ready for Opening Day."
EDGE Analysis
After suffering a complete tear of the ACL in his left knee upon landing awkwardly on first base while attempting to beat out a grounder in an April 28 game, Eaton spent almost all of the 2017 campaign rehabbing from surgery. He progressed as expected and didn't rule out the possibility of playing late in October if the Nationals had made it to the Fall Classic, but the offseason has provided additional time for him to strengthen the knee. With the outfielder having received clearance to resume all baseball activities, it appears that he won't face significant limitations in the spring, but expect the Nationals to stagger Eaton's workload in order to meet the goal of avoiding a setback prior to Opening Day. Martinez has already penciled Eaton in as the club's leadoff hitter, a role that could make the 28-year-old a contender to finish near the top of the league leaderboard in runs if health prevails.

Eaton (knee) is expected to be ready for the start of the 2018 season, Jamal Collier of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Eaton continues to recover from a torn ACL that he suffered in April, but all signs point to the outfielder being fully healthy by the time Opening Day rolls around. Although Eaton was pressing to make it back for a playoff run this past October, once the team was eliminated by the Cubs in the NLDS, the trainers decided to scale back his rehab in order to give him the best opportunity to be 100 percent for 2018. Looking ahead, there will likely be another update on Eaton's status by February.

Manager Davey Martinez said Eaton (knee) will bat leadoff and play left field in 2018, Mark Zuckerman of MASN Sports reports.
EDGE Analysis
This is assuming Eaton, who tore his ACL in April, will be healthy by the start of the season, which appears to be the case at this point. While the 29-year-old played in just 23 games for the Nationals last season, he demonstrated his value as a top-tier table setter in that short time, hitting .297/.393/.462 with 24 runs scored, three stolen bases and an 18:14 K:BB. With Eaton shifting to left field and Bryce Harper entrenched in right, Michael Taylor will likely start the season in center for Washington.

Eaton (knee) was reinstated from the 60-day DL on Friday.
EDGE Analysis
Eaton tore his ACL in late April, and was only able to appear in 23 games for the Nationals this season, but should be able to return to full health by the start of the 2018 campaign. During those games, he slashed .297/.393/.462 with two home runs and 13 RBI.

Eaton (knee) took batting practice Saturday, Jamal Collier of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
While Eaton has said that he'd like to return before the 2017 season ends, the team has yet to give any indication that such a goal is possible. Regardless of whether or not a 2017 return becomes attainable, it's great that Eaton has been able to make such steady progress recovering from the ACL tear that he suffered in April.

Eaton (knee) has been able to run and swing a bat for the past couple weeks, and is not willing to rule out a return before the end of the 2017 season, Dan Kolko of MASN Sports reports.
EDGE Analysis
It appears extremely far-fetched that Eaton could somehow return to the field this year after tearing his ACL in late April, but the outfielder remained hopeful that he could rejoin the Nationals in the later rounds of the playoffs if all goes well for him and the team. Whether he's able to rush back or not, it's encouraging news that Eaton has been progressing well with all phases of the game.

Eaton (knee) has full extension of his surgically repaired knee and is apparently ahead of schedule on his rehab, Chelsea Janes of The Washington Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
It's certainly a good sign that Eaton's rehab is going well and he's progressing more quickly than expected. He'll be out the remainder of 2017 but should be ready to get back in action during early 2018.

The Nationals transferred Eaton (knee) to the 60-day disabled list Thursday, Mark Zuckerman of MASNsports.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
It's merely a formality considering Eaton already underwent surgery to repair a torn ACL and meniscus in his left knee and will miss the rest of the 2017 seasons. He'll be closely watched heading into 2018 spring training to see if he can regain the speed and excellent bat skills that made him a breakthrough candidate before he suffered the injury.

Eaton (knee) underwent surgery Tuesday to address his left ACL and meniscus tear, Chelsea Janes of The Washington Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
Eaton reported no complications during the procedure and is still facing a recovery timetable of six-to-nine months. For all intents and purposes, Eaton is out for the season, which will force the Nationals to get by with Michael Taylor as their primary option in center field for the time being. In the 10 games that Eaton has already missed, Taylor is slashing .289/.341/.421 with a pair of stolen bases, but has struck out 15 times in 38 at-bats.
