Duvall left Tuesday's game with a left knee contusion after getting hit by a pitch.

With the rosters set to expand beyond 25 on Tuesday, it's possible he'll stick with the team for the remainder of the season, but he probably won't see a everyday action.

Duvall was optioned to Triple-A Sacramento on Sunday. Duvall was unable to lock down consideration for consistent reps at either corner infield spot during camp, but will likely be called upon if the GIants find themselves in need of an extra bat off the bench. A less-than-stellar .497 OPS during the spring certainly couldn't have helped his case.

Duvall will be recalled by the Giants on Tuesday. Duvall is a familiar face in the Giants' clubhouse, as he's already accumulated 61 at-bats in the majors this year, and has been with the team for the majority of August. He hit two long balls while with the club, and hit 27 total while with Triple-A Fresno. Duvall will provide corner infield depth for manager Bruce Bochy, as well as a power threat off the bench in pinch-hit situations.

Duvall has been one of the most fearsome sluggers in the PCL this season with 26 homers and 19 doubles over 86 games with Triple-A Fresno, but the success didn't translate during his limited time with the Giants. He's batted just .180 over 61 at-bats during multiple stints with the big club, resulting in his demotion back to the minors. He'll likely return to the big club at some point in September.

Duvall is out of the Giants' lineup Saturday against the Phillies. Travis Ishikawa will get the nod at first base against right-hander Kyle Kendrick, sending Duvall to the bench after four straight starts. Brandon Belt will see a concussion specialist next week and his status for a return remains uncertain, so the door is open for Duvall to continue seeing starts in the short-term.
