Tyler Johnson didn't skate Wednesday and he was seen sporting a walking boot. He was suffering from a bruised left foot. The Lightning rookie ranks second among first-year players with 17 goals and 37 points in 58 games. He's projected to be OK in time to play for Tampa Bay on Feb. 27, but we'll let you know if we hear otherwise.

Tyler Johnson's play while Steve Stamkos has been out of the lineup has really impressed the Lightning coaching staff. The rookie pivot really stepped up his game. As a result, Johnson was rewarded with extra playing time. He leads all rookie forwards in ice time averaging 18:30 and has 31 points, good for second amongst rookie scorers. It will be interesting to see what happens to Johnson once Stamkos returns from injury. He is likely going to move down to the third line as Stamkos and Valeri Filpulla are ahead of him on the center depth chart. That will no doubt hurt his fantasy value going forward. That said, Johnson has a bright future in the NHL.

Tyler Johnson potted a shorthanded goal in Tampa Bay's 4-3 shootout win versus Ottawa. He concluded the contest with six shots and a plus-2 rating. Johnson had gone six games without a goal going into the contest, but he collected six assists over that span. The rookie center has a four-game point streak going and he has 31 points in 51 matches.

Tyler Johnson is closing in on the rookie scoring lead. With two assists in Saturday afternoon's loss to the Sharks, Johnson has 29 points (12 goals) and trails only Nathan MacKinnon who has 31 points. Johnson is certainly enjoying his time centering Martin St. Louis, but he does have offensive talent in his own right and is worthy of a roster spot. He also has the potential to be even better next season. Pick him up if you can.

Johnson has notched four goals and four assists in his last 10 games. He ranks third among this year's rookie crop in scoring with 26 points in 46 matches.

Teddy Purcell ended up skating with J.T. Brown and Nate Thompson. The Lightning have been shut out in two straight games, so changes were bound to happen ahead of Thursday's match-up against Ottawa.

Johnson has 11 points in 23 games this season to go with 53 shots and a 49.2 faceoff winning percentage. He sees time on the power play and penalty kill. He's worth keeping an eye on, especially if he starts converting his chances more.

Johnson ended Antti Niemi's shutout bid at 7:39 in the third period when he took a pass from Ondrej Palat in the slot and blasted a shot past the goaltender's glove. Johnson now has five goals and six assists in 22 games.
