DeAngelo, as expected, was placed on waivers by the Rangers on Friday for the purpose of buying out his contract, Sportsnet's Chris Johnston reports.
EDGE Analysis
DeAngelo was waived by the team back in February following a postgame altercation with a teammate and hasn't played a single game for the organization since. At this point, it's hard to see another NHL team taking a risk on the 25-year-old blueliner despite the fact that he racked up an impressive 53 points in 68 games for the Rangers back in 2019-20. Still, once his contract is bought out, perhaps the prospect of getting DeAngelo at a significant discount compared to his current $4.8 million cap hit could keep him playing in the NHL.

DeAngelo's contract will be bought out after the season, Darren Dreger of TSN reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Rangers gave DeAngelo the option of having his contract terminated so he could find a new team, but he declined the opportunity. The 25-year-old has one assist this season and hasn't appeared in a game since January. He's expected to have his contract bought out this offseason and will become an unrestricted free agent.

DeAngelo was relegated to the taxi squad Monday, per TSN.
EDGE Analysis
It's far from an end to the ongoing saga between DeAngelo and the Rangers. For now, the blueliner will officially sit on the taxi squad but won't be around the team. Unless the organization can move the New Jersey native, he figures to spend the rest of the year watching from home before likely being bought out in the offseason. Regardless of what comes next, this will close out DeAngelo's four-year stint with the Rangers, which featured 19 goals and 73 helpers in 167 outings.

Rangers GM Jeff Gorton said Monday that DeAngelo won't play for the Rangers again, Vince Z. Mercogliano of USA Today reports.
EDGE Analysis
DeAngelo cleared waivers Monday and was officially placed on the taxi squad. He won't return to the team in any capacity. Gorton said DeAngelo "wasn't able to move on" after being a healthy scratch twice this year. Finally, his off-ice issues overshadowed his on-ice abilities when he was involved in a postgame skirmish with a teammate following Saturday's overtime loss to the Penguins, which was the last straw before being waived. The Rangers aren't currently talking about voiding DeAngelo's contract, and they're actively looking to find a new place for the 25-year-old to play.

DeAngelo was waived by the Rangers on Sunday, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports.
EDGE Analysis
DeAngelo has been given every opportunity to succeed with the Rangers, including time on the first power-play unit over the last two games. Nevertheless, the 25-year-old posted an assist and a minus-6 rating over six games, and his defensive contributions have been an eyesore. K'Andre Miller's emergence likely made this decision easier as well. DeAngelo posted 53 points -- 19 on the power play -- over 68 games last season, so perhaps another team will be willing to offer the blueliner a fresh start. He's under contract through next season at a cap hit of $4.8 million per year.

DeAngelo had five shots and a plus-2 rating over 20:54 of ice time in Thursday's 3-2 overtime win over Buffalo.
EDGE Analysis
DeAngelo's still in search of his first point after scoring 53 last season, but this was his best game of the campaign. He has eight shots in his last two games after totaling just five in his first three, and DeAngelo was moved back onto the top power-play unit for this one, logging 5:15 of ice time with the extra man. Undisciplined penalties have occasionally landed DeAngelo in the doghouse, but he hasn't picked up any PIM since being benched earlier this season and seems to be on the verge of a breakout performance.

DeAngelo is expected to return to the lineup for Friday's game against the Penguins, Rick Carpiniello of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
DeAngelo has been a healthy scratch for the Rangers' last two games after taking an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty in the season opener versus the Islanders last Thursday, but he's expected to return to his role skating on New York's third pairing and second power-play unit Friday. He'll need to generate some offense in order to hold on to his spot in the lineup, as DeAngelo's play in his own end is often times questionable at best.

DeAngelo's discipline is over, but coach David Quinn said he'll remain a healthy scratch Tuesday against the Devils, Rick Carpiniello of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Quinn scratched DeAngelo on Saturday after he took an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty in the season opener, and the coach doesn't want to rock the boat following Saturday's 5-0 win, so DeAngelo will remain on the bench against New Jersey. Given Quinn's reluctance to mess with a winning formula, DeAngelo may not crack the lineup again until the next time New York loses.

DeAngelo will be a healthy scratch for Saturday's game against the Islanders, Dan Rosen of NHL.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
DeAngelo went minus-1 and took an unsportsmanlike penalty in Thursday's season opener against the Islanders, so coach David Quinn is probably hoping Saturday's scratch will light a fire under the 25-year-old blueliner. DeAngelo could return to action as soon as Tuesday against the Devils.

DeAngelo skated with the taxi squad during Friday's practice, Rick Carpiniello of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
The 25-year-old defenseman took an unsportsmanlike penalty during Thursday's loss, and head coach Dan Quinn expressed his displeasure with the undisciplined and immature lapse in judgement. DeAngelo is incredibly talented, especially offensively, but the character concerns Quinn addressed have unfortunately been attributed to the defenseman since his time in the OHL. For what it's worth, he was traded twice before ever establishing himself in the NHL, which is rare for a player with his natural gifts. It's unlikely he is actually sent to the taxi squad, and DeAngelo could suit up against the Islanders on Saturday, but fantasy managers will want to monitor this development.
