According to agent Allan Walsh, Tomas Vokoun (blood clot) is slated to begin light workouts next week. "He is emphatic in saying that he fully intends on coming back and has not contemplated ending his career," said Walsh, who was refuting a report out of the Czech Republic that the injury may cause him to retire. Vokoun underwent a procedure to dissolve a blood clot in his pelvis a week ago and there's not timetable in place for his return. "We don't really have anything else on him," coach Dan Bylsma said. "We're still in the time period where we're evaluating from his surgeries and some of the tests and what he's going through right now." Jeff Zatkoff is expected to start the season as Marc-Andre Fleury's backup.

Tomas Vokoun (blood clot) is feeling much better according to his agent, Allan Walsh. "Tomas is of the frame of mind to continue playing as soon as doctors give all clear," Walsh said. There were reports that he had told reporters in the Czech Republic that he nearly died, but Walsh denied that. He remains out indefinitely.

Tomas Vokoun (blood clot) will not be available for the start of the regular season. The Penguins are listing Vokoun as being out indefinitely. When he's healthy enough to return, he'll serve as Marc-Andre Fleury's understudy.

The blood clots that Tomas Vokoun had removed on Saturday is not the first time in his career that he has had problems with his pelvis. Vokoun had problems in the 2005-06 season while with the Nashville Predators as he was diagnosed with pelvic thrombophlebitis (having multiple blood clots in his pelvis) and missed the remainder of the season after being diagnosed on April 10, 2006. He recovered over the off-season as he was on blood thinners and returned to start the 2006-07 season although he would have missed four-five months had it happened at the beginning of the season. It could be the same diagnosis for Vokoun so we suggest not drafting him this season as a handcuff for Marc-Andre Fleury.

Pittsburgh goaltender Tomas Vokoun is out indefinitely with a blood clot, according to Josh Yohe, Penguins beat reporter for the Tribune-Review. Vokoun has had similar health problems in the past, Yohe noted. "Obviously scary news about Vokoun," Yohe tweeted. "Missed time in 2005-06 with blood clots. (Pens general manager Ray) Shero doesn't believe this is related but isn't sure." Vokoun held his own in the playoffs and occasionally did significantly more than that, but he entered training camp as the likely backup once again to Marc-Andre Fleury in the Pens' net in 2013-14.

Tomas Vokoun is ready to take on the role of a starting or backup goalie with the Penguins. Vokoun was signed in the 2012 off-season as the backup to Marc-Andre Fleury but Fleury's poor performance in the post-season allowed Vokoun to take over as the number one netminder in the playoffs. Fleury is looking to rebound and grab the top job again and Vokoun would be happy in either role. "All I do is control what I can control," Vokoun said. "And when the coach tells me to play, I'm going to make sure that I'm ready to play well." Look for Vokoun to play 30-35 games this season. He should be drafted as a handcuff for Fleury. He had a 2.01 GAA and a .933 save percentage in 11 playoff games.

Tomas Vokoun gave up one goal on 24 shots in the Penguins' 1-0 loss to the Bruins in Game 4 on Friday night. Sure, Vokoun wound up with four straight losses, but he was hardly the problem in this series for Pittsburgh. If anything, he was a big reason the Penguins got this far in the playoffs and had stayed in many of these games. For the most part, he was a very steady presence between the pipes, not giving up more than three goals in any game (the three on 12 shots in Game 2 his worst showing). Vokoun played in 20 games in the regular season and 11 in the postseason, posting a 2.01 goals-against average and .933 save percentage in the playoffs.

Tomas Vokoun allowed two goals on 40 shots as the Penguins are now on the brink of elimination after their 2-1 double-overtime loss to the Bruins on Wednesday night. It looked like it was going to be a long night for the Penguins -- and a short one for Vokoun -- as the netminder gave up a goal to David Krejci on the first shot he faced. But he settled down, making 38 straight saves until getting beat on a redirect from Patrice Bergeron. After getting pulled in the first period of Game 2 after giving up three goals on 12 shots, this was exactly what the Penguins needed from Vokoun. It just so happens that The Penguins will look to stave off elimination starting on Friday.

Tomas Vokoun has confirmed that he will start in Game 3 against Boston. Coach Dan Bylsma didn't blame Vokoun after Monday's loss, but the Pittsburgh goaltender will have to be better after allowing three goals on 12 shots in Game 2's 6-1 defeat.

Tomas Vokoun was the first goaltender off the ice after Pittsburgh's game-day skate. He should be considered the Penguins' probable starter for Game 3 as a result. We probably won't get confirmation on who will be in goal until the pregame warmup, but it looks like Vokoun will get the nod.
