Tatar tallied his 10th assist of the year in a 2-1 loss to the Islanders on Friday. While this was Tatar's first point in four games, he has eight points in nine December games and has really responded after a slow start to the season. He is also getting over a flu, so it was good to see him producing again.

Tatar resumed skating Tuesday and will be in the lineup later in the evening against the Blue Jackets after battling the flu over the past few days, MLive.com's Ansar Khan reports. The forward wasn't forced to miss any games with the illness and most important, didn't seem to be suffering any symptoms of the mumps, the virus that has been laying waste to the NHL for the past several weeks. He said he just had normal flu symptoms and has been given clearance to play, allowing his fantasy owners to breathe a sigh of relief.

Tatar potted a pair of goals on his only two shots in Sunday's 3-1 win over the Hurricanes. Tatar now has points in five straight and has a plus-5 rating in that span. The goals were his 11th and 12th of the season, and he should easily surpass his career-highs that he set last year of 19 goals and 39 points.

Tatar picked up a pair of assists -- one on the power play -- Thursday against the Stars, giving him a three-game point streak. He's got a goal and three assists over the last three games. Tatar's points have come in bunches this year, as these three games are separated by two scoreless efforts from a previous six-game point streak. The 24-year-old Tatar looks set to blow by last year's 39-point total.

After totaling just one point in his first nine games of the year, Tatar has awoken offensively -- particularly over the last four games, over which he has four goals, two assists and a plus-2 rating. Thursday represents his first multi-goal effort of the year, but it probably won't be his last.

Tatar opened the scoring Tuesday against Columbus with his sixth goal -- which turned out to be the game-winner in the 5-0 shutout -- and chipped in an assist, too. Tatar has been on the scoresheet with regularity of late, having registered a point in seven of the last nine games. He's been shooting particularly heavily over the last three -- 15 in total -- which is a promising sign moving forward.
