It was the first game missed for Souray, who has played a big role for the winning Ducks with four goals, eight points and a plus-13 rating. "Somewhere during this month, there's going to be days off for him and other guys too," Boudreau said. Souray faded as his season went on for Dallas last year, and Boudreau is taking that into account as well as the 21 minutes he is averaging per night. "There's a lot of reasons why you want to keep a guy like him fresh because he's done great for us," Boudreau said.

Sheldon Souray is tied for second place in the NHL with a plus-13 rating. Souray has fit in well with the Anaheim Ducks after inking a three-year/$11 million contract. He has four goals and eight points in 15 games and that's a point-per-game pace we could see him maintaining. The trouble is that he has a history of injuries, so he's still a big gamble under any circumstances.

Sheldon Souray thinks Teemu Selanne of the Anaheim Ducks and Jaromir Jagr of the Dallas Stars - the NHL's leading active scorers -- are similar. The Ducks' defenseman marvels at the energy Selanne has every day and says Jagr is "a lot like Teemu is. When you see Teemu's commitment to the game, the way he goes out for every optional skate, the way he just commits himself to the team, it's not a surprise that he's doing it. And Jagr's the exact same on the other side. We come and we see it and everyone is like in awe of what he's doing. ... You just become a little numb to the fact of what (Teemu's) doing and the passion he has for the game - much the same as Jagr at their age." Selanne will be 43 on July 3; Jagr 41 next week. They are next to each other on the career goals list. Jagr's 668 are tied for 10th with Luc Robitaille. Selanne is next in 12th with 666. Jagr is eighth in points.

Sheldon Souray is on a three-game goal scoring streak. Souray also registered an assist on Wednesday, giving him four goals and seven points in nine games this season. He started out hot last season and then fizzled out, but the shortened campaign means that we might not experience the same level of drop-off in 2013.

He already has three goals this season and is getting plenty of opportunities on the power play, which makes him a solid third or fourth defenseman to have in all formats.

The Anaheim Ducks have been pleased with the two-way play of Sheldon Souray. Souray is part of the Ducks top pairing alongside Francois Beauchemin and is also contributing offensively as he has two goals and four points in seven games to go with a plus-four rating. He has a big shot from the point and it works especially well on the power play where he has scored both goals. He is worth a spot in all lineups except for the shallowest of leagues.
