Injury: Souray will undergo wrist surgery and will not play for the... dailyfaceoff.com Fri 1/17/14 2:56 PM

Souray has not played this season and he will not after he gets surgery.

ADD'EM: LOOK OUT FOR JOHANSSON! primepucks.com Sun 9/29/13 6:44 PM

Marcus Johnsson- Washington, C (Owned in 17% of ESPN leagues) Our top waiver-wire grab of the week will not be available in most leagues for long, so get on the bandwagon and add him to your fantasy squads. With 22 points in 34 games in '12-13, he flourished late in the season while playing on top line with Alexander Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom. Coach Adam Oates will hand over top-line duties once again to the 22-year old Swede, which should result in career-high numbers. A spike in power-play production could result in a 70+ point season. He has shown chemistry with his superstar line-mates in the preseason, which bodes well for his fantasy value in '13-14. Paul Stastny- Colorado, C (Owned in 37.4% of ESPN leagues) This is a crucial season for the 27-year old pivot, considering it's a contract year and that he has been on the downswing over the last three seasons. Nagging injuries have held him back, but we shouldn't forget that he was basically a point-per-game producer over his first four seasons, surpassing 75 points twice. He could be had on the cheap, but there is plenty of motivation for him to bounce back. A strong performance in the '13 Hockey World Championships could be an indicator of positive things to come. Mikhail Grabovski- Washington, C (Owned in 17.4% of ESPN leagues) Since debuting on the Washington Capitals during the preseason, Grabovski has been scoring regularly, capped by a goal/assist performance during Saturday night's game against Chicago. Think Mike Ribeiro of '12-13 when projecting where the talented center will fit into the Capitals offensive plans. He will be the second-line pivot on one of the most explosive teams in the NHL. You can pencil him in for plenty of power-play time, as well. He will be extremely motivated to prove that the Maple Leaf organization was wrong in buying out his contract during the off-season. Cam Fowler- Anaheim, D (Owned in 31.5% of ESPN leagues) The ultra-talented rearguard will have an opportunity to rebound after two straight underachieving seasons, where he failed to live up to the "future star" hype. He did score 40 points as a rookie, so you know Fowler can get it done. A long-term injury to Sheldon Souray has further entrenched Fowler as the team's undisputed power-play quarterback, so look for him to increase his point production but he need to clean up his play in the defensive zone. A bounce-back effort should be in the works for him in the upcoming season. Jake Gardiner- ...

DAILY PRIME - SEPTEMBER 19, 2013: PRE-SEASON FANTASY BITS; NHL IN 3... primepucks.com Thu 9/19/13 4:38 AM

19-year old defenseman Hampus Lindholm netted the game-winning goal for Anaheim in the 4-1 win over Colorado. According to the Orange County Register, Ducks Coach Bruce Boudreau has been very impressed early on with their '12 first-round pick. With Sheldon Souray out long-term, the opportunity is there for either Lindholm or Sami Vatanen to make the team right out of camp... A couple of our favorite bounce-back candidates for '13 were on the offensive last night, as Jordan Eberle(G/2A) and Marian Gaborik(2G) were dominant in victories for their respective teams, Edmonton and Columbus. The question regarding Eberle is which pivot will line up with him and Taylor Hall to start the season. Among the various options discussed by Oiler's Coach Dallas Eakins is temporarily shifting Hall to center. This situation is worth monitoring closely. Meanwhile, the "on-off" theory suggests a motivated Gaborik during his contract year should be strong after a disappointing '12-13 campaign... Carolina goalie Cam Ward played the entire game in a 5-4 loss to Columbus, stopping only 26 of 31 shots. After missing most of last season, early rust should be expected for one of the NHL's true workhorses. However, play it smart and also consider adding backup Anton Khudobin to your fantasy squads. Just in case Ward falters, the youngster has shown the abilty to be stingy in net during his time playing behind Tuukka Rask in Boston. Huge upgrade over last season's backups Dan Ellis and Justin Peters. Training Camp Update: Joffrey Lupul(back) returned to practice for Toronto. He was back on the top line with Phil Kessel and Tyler Bozak. Point-per-game upside, but huge injury concerns when drafting him.. One of our prime deep sleepers, Cal Clutterbuck, will be out indefinitely for the New York Islanders due to a leg laceration. He had huge success with John Tavares back in their OHL days, but we will have to wait awhile to see if the two can rekindle their past scoring chemistry.. Detroit's Johan Franzen is day-to-day with a hip injury. Until further notice, pencil him on the second line. Let's see how camp plays out. ***ATTENTION FANTASY HOCKEY LEAGUE COMMISSIONERS*** If you are the commissioner of an upcoming fantasy hockey league and will be holding a draft soon,  PrimePucks has some goodies for you to distribute to your league members.  Look even better to your league members by giving them free stuff.  Who doesn't like free stuff?  Contact cj@primepucks.com to find out more. ...

NHL IN 30-2013/14: ANAHEIM DUCKS primepucks.com Fri 9/13/13 7:26 AM

After the Anaheim Ducks signed their two core players Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry to eight-year extensions, they seem to be set up with offensive star-power up front for the near future. However, they will need to find an adequate replacement for winger Bobby Ryan, who was sent to Ottawa. The potency of the Duck offense will rely heavily on a young nucleus of forwards, such as Kyle Palmieri, Jakub Silfverberg, or Nick Bonino looking to step up and figure in top-six production. Teemu Selanne returns for his 21st NHL season, but will he have anything left? There are also many question marks on defense where the loss of veteran Sheldon Souray will require unproven prospects, such as Sami Vatanen or even Hampus Hindholm to contribute immediately. Even with a strong tandem in net with Hiller and Fasth, the jury is out on whether the 13/14 version of the Ducks can stay near the top of the Western Conference. Fantasy owners will have several elite options to choose from, but if they are to stay in the playoff hunt, youth will need to be served. Goalies In goal, Hiller has seemingly overcome his vertigo struggles and is coming off a great second half of last season, where he finished off with a 10-4-3 record and a 1.95 GAA. The 31-year old had briefly lost his starting job to backup Viktor Fasth, who was sensational early on after going 8-1-0 in 9 February contests. However, after Fasth faded a bit late in the season, Hiller again became the go-to guy in the playoffs and played well in defeat to the Detroit Red Wings. Now healthy and entering his contract year, Hiller will enter camp as the starter with plenty of motivation to have a huge comeback season. The presence of Fasth will limit his starts somewhat, but he should still play in 60 games and get close to 35 wins. A top-15 fantasy option for sure, with moderate upside. Defense On defense, 21-year old Cam Fowler will need to duplicate his scoring heroics as a rookie, when he debuted with 40 points. Undeniably the most talented Ducks defenseman, he regressed even further with only 11 points in 39 games last season. However, with veteran Sheldon Souray out long-term and Francois Beauchemin's offensive output expected to return back to normal levels, Fowler should expand on his PP duties and lead all Anaheim blue-liners in point production. He should be a solid buy-low candidate in all fantasy formats. In terms of fantasy impact rookie blueliners, 22-year old Sami Vatanen could make a big splash in 13/14. ...

Souray should return to the lineup Monday.

Line Change: I think Souray might sit out tonight - maintenance day. dailyfaceoff.com Fri 3/1/13 2:56 PM

The Ducks might give Souray the night off. The 36-year-old has played in 18 games season. With the condensed schedule the occasional night off would help. Monitor his status before game-time.
