Varone represented the whole of the Buffalo offense Thursday, scoring the first two goals of his NHL career and going plus-1 in a 5-2 loss to Carolina. A nice improvement for Varone over his season debut Tuesday, when he went minus-2 against the Devils. He showed promise in that game, though, putting five shots on goal to foreshadow Thursday's breakout. Varone, who owns 29 points in 35 games for AHL Rochester and was a 61-point man there last year, skated a solid 15:19 for the Sabres on Thursday.
