Patrick Kane played with a heavy heart Monday night. He lost his grandfather hours before Monday's game against Los Angeles, but he played great in the contest. Kane led the Blackhawks to a 5-3 win by recording two goals and one assist. "It was a tough day overall," he said. "He was one of my great friends growing up. It's just a really sad, sad day. It was important to get the win, but any time you someone taken away from you, who's so close to you, who means so much, it's tough to get ready for the game." Our deepest condolences go out to Kane and his family for their loss.

Patrick Kane learned of the death of his grandfather, Donald Kane, on Monday, hours before he had two goals and an assist to lead the Chicago Blackhawks to a 5-3 win against the Los Angeles Kings at Staples Center. Kane has been struggling lately but maybe he got back on track with his three-point night. He now has 27 goals and 36 assists in 58 games this season. Defenseman Nick Leddy also had a strong game with a goal and an assist, while Bryan Bickell and Marcus Kruger also scored for the Blackhawks. Jonathan Toews added two helpers in the victory.

Patrick Kane netted his second goal in his past three outings following an 11-game goalless slump. He has 25 goals on the year and he leads the Blackhawks with 60 points in 55 contests. Kane had been keeping pace with Pittsburgh's Sidney Crosby for the league-scoring lead before some inconsistent play seeped into his game. He is currently fourth in the NHL in points.

Patrick Kane's 24th goal of the season was the only Chicago tally in a 2-1 loss to the Wild on Thursday. Kane has enjoyed a very productive season to-date, but the goal was his first since December 28th, a span of 12 games. Patrick Sharp and Nick Leddy earned the only assists on the goal.

Looking on downside, Kane's goalless slump was extended to 11 consecutive games and he recorded just two shots in the contest. He has four shots in his last three outings, which suggests that he's lost some confidence. Kane should be able to snap out of his goal funk soon.

Patrick Kane has gone 10 straight games without scoring a goal. "I want to get better," he said. "I want to improve and get back to the level I was at a little bit before. I guess that starts with hard work - that's the biggest thing. Hopefully, things kind of create (themselves). I'm hanging in there, (so) hopefully I'll get some chances and bury them." He has collected just three assists since his 14-game point streak came to an end on Dec. 30. Kane wants to be more consistent so look for him to try to get back on track on Wednesday against Detroit.

Patrick Kane was 0-for-9 in shootouts this season entering the Blackhawks' game Sunday against the Boston Bruins. The law of averages finally kicked in, as Kane went back to the slowdown move that worked so well last season and scored the shootout winner in the third round. He was relieved to get it. ''Yeah, it felt good to see one go in,'' he said. Said teammate Jonathan Toews: "He scores every practice, and at some point they're bound to go in,'' Toews said. ''Sometimes it happens. The best scorers and the best shooters can't score every time. It's nice to see him finish it off.''

Patrick Kane hasn't been credited with a goal in his last seven games, but he did accidentally score into his own net in Sunday's win over Edmonton. He was deep in the offensive zone when he tried to play the puck back to point, but no one was there and it slid slowly into an empty net on a delayed penalty call against the Oilers. Kane finished the contest with two assists and five shots, so he did manage to help out his own team as well.

Patrick Kane has just one assist in his last six games. Kane was named the NHL's first star of the month of December, but he's trying to find his scoring touch again. We're not too worried about him and we don't think his current slump will last for much longer.
