Patrick Eaves has a sprained MCL and an ankle injury. Eaves was injured during Thursday's practice. "I think we need to take a week to see how he feels," Red Wings GM Ken Holland said. "The doctors feel the ankle is going to heal quicker than the MCL sprain." There's a good chance Eaves won't be ready for the start of the regular season.

Patrick Eaves suffered an apparent leg injury during Thursday's practice. He had to be helped off the ice after getting tangled with a couple of players in front of the net and falling to the ice in pain. Eaves will be evaluated further later in the afternoon, but for now the Wings are saying he has a "lower-body injury."

Todd Bertuzzi, Mikael Samuelsson and Cory Emmerton are all candidates to watch from the press box if Eaves is inserted.

Patrick Eaves scored the only goal in regulation for the Red Wings in their 2-1 shootout win versus the Sharks on Thursday night. Both teams' goals were scored in the third period, with Eaves answering less than two minutes after San Jose scored. It was the 28-year-old's first goal of the season. Niklas Kronwall and Jonathan Ericsson had the assists. Damien Brunner potted the lone goal in the shootout.
