Backlund is on fire right now and is up to 25 points in 39 games on the season. Centering the second line, Backlund is worth grabbing while he's hot, as he's only 25-years of age and has showed flashes of brilliance in the past. Now that he's displaying his talent consistently, he could become a lethal scoring threat.

Backlund recorded an assist in Wednesday's 6-3 win over the Ducks.
Backlund was held without a shot attempt for just the fourth time all season in the win, but still managed to extend his point streak to six games with the assist. The 25-year-old is quietly scoring at over a half-point-per-game clip this season (22 points in 37 games), providing optimism for the Flames that he and Sean Monahan may form one of the league's better top-two center tandems in seasons to come.

Backlund registered an assist for the second straight game Wednesday as the Flames fell to the Wild 3-2 in overtime.Backlund has been streaky this season, with periods of production butting up to droughts. That being said, he is on a mini-point streak right now and is not a bad play at the moment.

Backlund (illness) will return to the lineup Wednesday against the Sharks, Roger Millions of Sportsnet reports.
The illness forced Backlund out of Monday's win over the Jets, but that will be the extent of the center's absence. He was back on the ice for Wednesday's morning skate and participated in a full capacity, taking part in line rushes with a second trio that included Lance Bouma and David Jones.

Backlund is currently dealing with an illness and this will be the first game that he's forced off the ice because of the ailment. His next opportunity play will come against the Sharks on Wednesday.

Backlund's illness comes at an inopportune time, as the forward is coming off a hot month of January in which he collected five goals and five assists in 10 games. The ailment doesn't appear to be overly serious, as he's still a game-time decision, but owners should check for an update on his status prior to the opening faceoff.

Backlund ends January as hot as he stated it. He finishes the month with five goals and five assists in 10 games and may now be hitting his stride that could take him through the rest of the season.
