Matt Read recorded a goal and two assists as Sodertalje survived against Tingsryds on Tuesday. Read's Swedish HockeyAllsvenskan club held a 3-0 lead early in the third period, but they ended up with only a one-goal victory. New York Rangers forward Carl Hagelin picked up two assists in the contest. The two of them are linemates overseas, but if it wasn't for the NHL lockout they would be competing against each other in their second years in the Atlantic Division.

Matt Read has officially inked a deal with Sodertalje in Sweden. Reports surfaced several days ago about Read joining the same team as Rangers winger Carl Hagelin, but nothing had been finalized until now. The 26-year-old had 47 points in 79 games during his rookie season.

Matt Read hopes to continue the momentum from a strong rookie season as he plies his trade with Sodertalje of Sweden's secondary (Hockey Allsvenskan) league. Read will play on the same team as speedy Rangers player Carl Hagelin. One cannot help but wonder if he's going to see a reasonable level of competition, but the 26-year-old might also enjoy a confidence boost after a successful debut season.

Matt Read potted the only goal in the Philadelphia Flyers' 4-1 Game 2 loss to the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday night. Read's marker was his third of the postseason, and it came at 2:53 of the first period. After that, the Flyers' offense went cold, getting thoroughly outplayed by the Ilya Kovalchuk-less Devils. Brayden Schenn and Wayne Simmonds had the assists. Simmonds also had 12 penalty minutes and Maxime Talbot had 10.

Matt Read got into the Flyers' rookie scoring act with two goals, including the game winner, in Game 3's 8-4 win over Pittsburgh. He has three points in three games in the team's opening round series in his first taste of NHL postseason action. His two-goal outing follows great showings by Brayden Schenn, who's heroics in Game 1 (one goal, two assists) helped spur the Flyers comeback win and Sean Couturier's impressive hat trick in Game 2. The first-year stars have come to play for the Flyers, which bodes very well for the team's future.

Matt Read has collected a mere 12 penalty minutes in 76 games during his rookie season. "Personally, I hate to watch the game," he said. "When you take a penalty, that's two minutes you're not able to get on the ice. I try to limit taking penalties as much as I can. And you want the help the team out, it's hard playing a lot of penalty-kill games. I try to limit as many opportunities as I can, by not getting lazy and putting my stick up in the waist or slashing, little things like that." Read has displayed a solid two-way game this campaign with the Flyers that has seen him score 23 goals and 23 assists, while figuring prominently in the team's penalty kill group and posting a plus-11 rating. He could be a future Lady Byng Trophy candidate if his career continues down that path.
