Matt Moulson vows that he will remain unaffected by the fact that he's entering the final year of his contract with the New York Islanders. Moulson said: "I'm going to play the same way, try to get better. Every single year, you want to have a career year for yourself, no matter what year of your contract that you're in." Moulson has thrived as John Tavares' near-permanent wing man since 2009-10, producing 214 points, among the 40 top NHL scorers over that span. Some might view him as a player who needs a star like Tavares to get him going, but there would be no shortage of teams wanting to sign a three-time 30-goal scorer should he hit the open market on July 1.

Matt Moulson and the New York Islanders haven't had any talks regarding a contract extension for the left winger, according to Newsday's Arthur Staples. Moulson is entering the final year of his contract, but the 29-year old told Staples a new deal isn't on his radar. "Thats what I pay my agent for. I'm going to try to help this team win games and make sure my mind's on that," Moulson said. Moulson has had a bit of a coming-out party over the past two seasons, scoring 51 goals and 113 points while skating on the Isles' top line with John Tavares. Even if they haven't started talks yet, we'd be surprised if the Isles didn't at least have some sort of conversation fairly soon.

Despite the fact that he received only two minor penalties this season, Matt Moulson did not win the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy for sportsmanship. The trophy is awarded "to the player adjudged to have exhibited the best type of sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct combined with a high standard of playing ability." Moulson has registered 113 points in 129 games over the past two seasons and has been assessed a grand total of five minor penalties over that span. Yet, he lost the trophy last season to Florida's Brian Campbell and this season to Tampa's Martin St. Louis. We are betting 2013-14 is his year.

Matt Moulson is a nominee for the 2013 Lady Byng Memorial Trophy. Moulson was also a finalist in 2012, but lost to Brian Campbell. Moulson had 44 points and four penalty minutes in 47 games.

Matt Moulson scored his second goal of the playoffs in Sunday's overtime loss to Pittsburgh. He has worked well with Kyle Okposo, who picked up one of the assists along with defenseman Lubomir Visnovsky, since being separated from John Tavares. The two of them will probably get some shifts together as the series moves along, but the changes have worked out well so far for the Islanders' offense despite Pittsburgh's 2-1 series lead.

The move to split Matt Moulson and John Tavares up seemed to work quite well. Both were productive in the Islanders' 4-3 win over the Penguins Friday night. Moulson scored a goal and registered an assist, while Tavares recorded a power-play helper. No telling if Isles' coach John Capuano will continue to play Joshua Bailey on Tavares' wing or will restore Mouslon to his regular spot.

Matt Moulson has been moved off John Tavares' wing and onto the second line. We point this out because the two have been nearly inseparable over the last four years, forming one of the best one-two punches in hockey. Moulson had 15 goals and 29 assists this year. Joshua Bailey, who had 11 goals and 19 points this season, has been moved up to left wing on the first line. For something that has worked so well, this screams of something of a desperation move, though we can understand that coach Jack Capuano wants to balance the lineup more.

Matt Moulson recorded a goal and an assist Tuesday night after missing one game with the flu. The Islanders sniper has 13 goals and 39 points in 39 games this season.
