The New York Rangers are reportedly interested in unsigned prospect Kevin Hayes.
Hayes is only under Chicago's control until August 15. If he doesn't sign by then, he'll become an unrestricted free agent and can join any team. Hayes, who has experience playing alongside Rangers forward Chris Kreider, would have a good chance of making the Rangers' opening game roster if he decides to sign with them. He had 27 goals and 65 points in 40 games with Boston College last season.

The Chicago Blackhawks are looking to sign former first round pick Kevin Hayes in the off-season.
Hayes was selected with the 24th pick in the 2010 draft and spent four seasons with Boston College. He became a left winger this past season after three years at center and responded with a 27 goal and 65 point season in 40 games after picking up only 17 goals and 50 assists in his first three college seasons which spanned 102 games. "He's 22 years old, so he's not in that 19-year-old category. He may not be a guy who has to spend a long time developing. So that's the benefit of leaving a player in college for four years," GM Stan Bowman said. "He's got a lot of talent.
He played his first three years as center and this last year he was on the wing. It's certainly nice to see him be able to do both. He's got the combination of size and skill and that's hard to find." His brother Jimmy was a member of the Blackhawks organization before he was dealt to Florida in the Kris Versteeg deal in November.

Kevin Hayes is expected to return to Boston College for his senior year.
Hayes had six goals and 25 points in 27 games. After he finishes his college career, he should join the AHL to finish out the season. Beyond that, there's always a chance he'll make his NHL debut as a late season call up. Hayes was taken with the 24th overall pick in 2010.

Kevin Hayes sought advice from his older brother, Jimmy Hayes, who broke into the NHL last season.
"The big thing Jimmy talks to me about is consistency," said Kevin. "He says that's the main thing to look for up with the big club. He said just make sure you play like yourself; there's a reason why they drafted you." Kevin is taking part in the Blackhawks' prospect camp. He's spent two seasons with Boston College after Chicago took him with the 24th overall pick in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.
