The right-handed blueliner, who collected one goal and eight points in 18 games with the Pens following a trade with Edmonton, could hold some sneaky fantasy value. Coach Mike Sullivan didn't show much confidence in Schultz -- he skated 15 minutes or more only four times in the playoffs -- but the defender currently projects to skate as part of a third pairing with Derrick Pouliot. Given the nature of injuries striking over the course of an 82-game slate, Schultz could see an expanded role at some point.

Schultz will become a free agent after the Penguins opted not to submit a qualifying offer for him Monday.

Schultz was acquired via trade by Pittsburgh last season, but was either a healthy scratch or saw limited minutes for much of the Stanley Cup run. If there's anything in Schultz's game that will benefit from the move, it will be his plus-minus. Previously on a struggling Edmonton team, the 25-year old came to the Penguins with a minus-22 rating in 45 games this season.

Schultz arrived in Pittsburgh for practice Friday and is available for the team's matchup with Calgary on Saturday.
