Joey MacDonald is on the shelf with back spasms. MacDonald will get an MRI upon his return to Detroit as the Red Wings have just finished up a three game swing to California. He had surgery six years ago for a bulging disc so the Red Wings want to make sure the problem is not the same. Stay tuned.

Joey MacDonald will get the nod for Detroit on Wednesday versus Anaheim. Number one goalie Jimmy Howard just returned from a groin injury Tuesday, so the Wings won't play him in back-to-back contests. MacDonald has posted an 8-4-1 record with a .918 save percentage and a 2.01 goals-against average this season.

Joey MacDonald yielded three goals on 20 shots in the Detroit Red Wings 3-2 loss to the Nashville Predators on Saturday night. MacDonald has been a pleasant surprise for the Wings, especially handling the load with Jimmy Howard injured, but he's now given up three goals in three straight starts (one win). The Wings' No. 1 man between the pipes hasn't played since March 4 with a groin strain, though there is a chance he returns Tuesday.

Red Wings goaltender Joey MacDonald stopped 21 of the Los Angeles Kings' 24 shots Friday night, good enough to record a 4-3 win in Detroit. MacDonald filled in dependably yet again for first-stringer Jimmy Howard, who left after the first period of the Wings' 3-2 loss in Philadelphia Tuesday night. Howard injured his groin.

Joey MacDonald allowed three goals on 23 shots in the Red Wings' 3-2 loss to the Flyers Tuesday night. Detroit suffered another blow Sunday on the injury front, as Jimmy Howard left after the first period with a groin strain. It's unclear how much time he is expected to miss, but Howard initially said that he didn't think it was "too serious." MacDonald has been relegated to backup duties with the return of Howard from a broken index finger, but he seems capable of winning every time he suits up for the Wings. If you have an extra roster spot and are in need of goalie help, MacDonald would make for an ideal spot starter on any fantasy team, especially if Howard is to miss a few more games.

Joey MacDonald allowed the game-winning goal as the Chicago Blackhawks beat the Detroit Red Wings 2-1. MacDonald came in relief after Jimmy Howard was injured. That might seem like an unlucky break for MacDonald, but it could give him a nice amount of short-term value if Howard's issue will force him to miss some time.

Joey MacDonald stopped 28 of 30 shots en route to a 5-2 win over Columbus Tuesday night. This final score appears lopsided, but the Red Wings actually trailed in the third period of the contest. In any case, the result is the same for MacDonald, as he earns a win in his seventh straight start. He has been relegated to backup duties with the return of Jimmy Howard, but he seems capable of winning every time he suits up.

Red Wings coach Mike Babcock will turn to Joey MacDonald in goal tonight at Columbus. MacDonald will attempt to stretch his winning streak to seven. MacDonald's last start was against San Jose at The Joe on Feb. 19. He won that match to extend his current winning streak to six games. Tonight will mark his first road assignment since a loss at Phoenix on Feb. 6, his most recent defeat. The 32-year-old MacDonald is 6-1-1 with a 1.66 GAA and .934 save percentage.

It looks like Joey MacDonald will stay with the Detroit Red Wings even after Jimmy Howard (broken finger) returns. Detroit made room for MacDonald by waiving Ty Conklin. MacDonald certainly earned his spot on the Red Wings' roster by limiting the competition to just 13 goals over his last seven starts. MacDonald led Detroit to six straight wins during the recent home stand, which allowed Detroit to break the NHL record for most consecutive home wins.
