Pageau gained some renown due to postseason heroics last year, but the 25-year-old has yet to score more than 19 goals on a season. This likely won't be the year where he hits the 20-goal threshold either, as he only has 14 at the moment. He also only has 134 shots in 73 games, so the seven shots in this one was an anomaly.

Pageau scored a goal on two shots while adding three hits, a blocked shot and a plus-1 rating in Tuesday's 2-1 loss to the Hurricanes.

The goal was only his seventh of the season, but it did give the Sens a lead that they would eventually squander in the third period. Pageau's spot on the depth chart doesn't afford him many prime scoring opportunities -- he hasn't picked up a power-play point since 2015-16 -- but if Derick Brassard gets dealt away by the trade deadline, Pageau could move into a top-six role to close out the campaign.

Additionally, considering how poorly the Senators are playing, there aren't many fantasy settings where Pageau is worth a roster spot.

This is rather surprising given that Senators coach Guy Boucher told reporters Monday that there would be "slim to no chance" that Pageau would be ready to return ahead of the All-Star break. Still, we're talking about a guy who is starting a whopping 65.6 of his even-strength shifts in the defensive zone this season, and that's not a favorable setup in the fantasy realm. Pageau has just 15 points (six goals, nine assists) through 42 games.

The pesky forward is producing at a fairly high clip with a goal and nine points in 16 games thus far in 2017-18. His value is still limited to deeper leagues where his contributions in hits (32) and blocked shots (15) are more rewarded.
