Pageau scooped up a Ryan Pulock rebound in the first and fired it home, and then took as sweet pass from Leo Komarov to break in and score while shorthanded. Pageau now has three goals in his last two games after going eight without a snipe. He plays an integral role on the Isles' third line and seems to fit Barry Trotz's defensive scheme well. But like most Islanders, Pageau's commitment to the shutdown side of the game lowers his production for fantasy purposes.

EDGE Analysis

The trade for Pageau and his subsequent signing was a bold move by the Islanders. They sacrificed a first-round draft pick with the trade and essentially had to trade Devon Toews to stay under the salary cap. That's quite a bit to give up for a third-line center, especially one that has only surpassed 40 points in a season twice in his career. That being said, not all the blame is at the feet of Pageau. Coach Barry Trotz has saddled him at right wing with either Leo Komarov or Ross Johnston more often than not. Those two players are going to bring down the point production on any line.

The 28-year-old scored a career-high 28 goals through 67 games last season in a campaign split between the Sens and Isles, but a third-line placement with New York this time around will make it tough for him to match that pace.

The Islanders paid a high price for his services at the trade deadline last season and then signed him to a hefty contract extension that will keep him on Long Island for the next six seasons. Pageau is a jack of all trades kind of player who can do whatever is asked of him. Playing on the third-line could hinder his numbers somewhat, especially when at this point in time it is unknown who will be flanking him. Pageau could get a bump in value should Matthew Barzal not sign in time for the season opener on January 14, but that would be short-lived or Islander fans better hope it will be, as Barzal is not expected to hold out for a long period of time.

The 27-year-old Pageau added 10 PIM, four shots on goal, four hits, three blocked shots and a plus-2 rating in a well-rounded performance from a fantasy perspective. He has 11 points, a plus-12 rating, 42 shots, 69 hits and 21 PIM in 19 games.
