Jamie Benn is day-to-day after being cut in the leg by a skate Thursday night in the Dallas Stars' 3-2 win against the Calgary Flames on Thursday night. The Stars forward left the game about midway through the second period after Mark Giordano's skate struck the back of his left leg in a collision, but it appears as if he dodged a bullet here. "He's got a cut on his leg. He got hit by a skate. He's got stitches in his leg and he's going to be day-to-day," said Stars coach Glen Gulutzan. "It's a pretty decent size cut, so he is going to be day-to-day. He probably won't play in Phoenix (Saturday), but there is a possibility he could play here (vs. Nashville) on Sunday." Benn has 17 goals and 49 points this season.

This has been a memorable season for Jamie Benn, who was chosen to represent the Dallas Stars in the recent NHL All-Star Game and who appeared in his 200th NHL game Friday night in Buffalo. Benn, 22, became the seventh player drafted in 2007 to reach that plateau. He was selected 129th overall. Since the Stars moved to Dallas in 1993, Benn has more points by his 200th game than any other Stars player. Benn has 145 points. James Neal was closest at 126 points.

All-star center Jamie Benn had a goal and two assists in the Dallas Stars' 5-2 victory over the Ducks in Anaheim Wednesday night. It was Benn's 14th goal of the season and his 30th assist. Michael Ryder also had three points -- his 18th goal of the season as well as an assist. Alex Goligoski also contributed to the Stars' offense with two assists. Also scoring goals for the Stars were Vernon Fiddler, Eric Nystrom, Stephane Robidas and Sheldon Souray. The Stars had scored only seven goals in their previous six games.

Jamie Benn won the NHL's accuracy shooting competition in the 2012 NHL All-Star Skills Competition. Not bad for a guy that hasn't played in a game since January 14th because of an appendectomy. Benn should be fine to make his return to the Stars' lineup on Feb. 1st.

The Dallas Stars have activated Jamie Benn from injured reserve. He is projected to appear in the NHL All-Star Game this weekend and then make his return to the Stars lineup on Feb. 1 in Anaheim. Benn missed five games after undergoing an appendectomy.

Although the Dallas Stars were able to lockup Alex Goligoski to a four-year/$18.4 million contract extension on Monday, don't expect Jamie Benn to get re-signed before the end of the season. Benn is scheduled to become a restricted free agent this summer. After scoring 22 goals and 56 points in 69 games last season, Benn has 13 goals and 42 points in 43 contests in 2011-12. It's safe to say that he'll get a sizable raise over the $821,667, including bonuses, he could make this season, but he's not eligible for arbitration. The biggest risk is that someone could put in an offer sheet for Benn if he isn't signed in time, but teams haven't shown much appetite for trying to grab top-tier restricted free agents from other teams using that method. As a side note, Benn, who had an appendectomy on January 15th, is still projected to play in the All-Star Game, even though he won't play on Tuesday.

The Dallas Stars placed forward Jamie Benn on the injured reserve retroactive to Jan. 14. That doesn't really change his outlook as he recovers from an appendectomy, but it allows the Stars a little room to maneuver the rest of their roster.

Jamie Benn rode the stationary bike on Friday after having an appendectomy last Sunday. "He's here this morning riding the bike, so he's feeling a little bit better," coach Glen Gulutzan said. "He looks a little better than he did yesterday, he was a little white. I think he's on course, on what a guy would do after an appendectomy. He's young, so it doesn't take as long." Gulutzan added that Benn was a "remote possibility" to play Tuesday versus Anaheim and a decision hasn't been made regarding his participation in the All-Star Game.

The Dallas Stars believe that Jamie Benn (appendectomy) will be available to play in the NHL All-Star game and he might be ready to return to their lineup next week. "Bennie, seven days from his surgery, for sure 100 percent, he is not playing," said coach Glen Gulutzan referring to this weekend's back-to-back situation. "So I don't know if you can rule out Bennie for Tuesday against Anaheim, but for sure before that we won't see him."

The Dallas Stars think Jamie Benn (appendectomy) will return in 10 days to two weeks. That's an improvement over the initial timetable, which suggested that Benn could miss up to three weeks. Although there's never a good time to be injured, the All-Star break should work in Benn's favor. Benn is projected to miss the Stars' next five games, but Dallas has seven straight off days starting with January 25th.
