The Dallas Stars reportedly made a big pitch to restricted free agent Jamie Benn on Sunday. According to Sportsnet's Nick Kypreos, Benn received a multi-year offer that would pay him as much as $5 million per year. However, there still hasn't been anything agreed to yet. Benn cannot attend training camp with the Stars until he signs a new deal. Once he does agree to terms, he will line up as the team's number one center

Restricted free agent Jamie Benn didn't attend the start of the Dallas Stars training camp. That's to be expected, given that he's not under contract. "I'm optimistic that we'll have him back on the team, but it won't be today," Stars GM Joe Nieuwendyk said. "We'll focus on the guys we have here, because it's a short camp and we need to get ready. But in the meantime, certainly we'll keep working away at trying to get Jamie re-signed." Benn did play in 19 DEL games during the lockout, so he's in a better position than some going into the shortened season. Still, if these contract negotiations drag on for more than a couple days, then we'll be worried about him getting off to a slow start after missing a good chunk of training camp.

Jamie Benn will wait until he's been re-signed before he starts working out with the Dallas Stars. That might seem like an obvious statement, but it will impact him if he misses even a couple days of what will already be a short training camp. "We've had talks with Jamie for a year and a half, so we know the parameters," Stars GM Joe Nieuwendyk said Tuesday. "We've made it clear to them that it is a priority for us, and I think Jamie knows we want him in camp. It's important, but time will dictate whether it gets done." Benn did play in Germany during the lockout, so he has gotten a bit of work under his belt this season, which is more than most players can say.

Jamie Benn is still a restricted free agent but look for the Dallas Stars to sign him quickly. Benn played in the German League until Dec. 12 before returning to this side of the pond for personal reasons. He is the future of the Stars and Dallas needs to sign him quickly to compete. He had 26 goals and 63 points last season but look for him to take his game to a new level and be at the 40-45 point mark in a 48 game schedule this season.

Jamie Benn has left the Hamburg Freezers of the Deutsche Eishockey Liga for personal reasons, according to the team's website. "Jamie has asked for a break to settle personal matters in North America," said sports director Stephane Richer via google translate. "This request we have complied. Of course, he is one of our key players, but personal reasons enjoy priority for us. Jamie was in the jersey of the Hamburg Freezers shown outstanding performance and particularly in his first games took pressure from the other players. Should the lockout continue or fail the season complete, we expect Jamie back in January in Hamburg. For now, we give him now first time that he needs." Benn had seven goals and 20 points in 19 games in the DEL.

Jamie Benn's primary motivation for joining Hamburg of the German League is to continue playing in game action. Benn has been staying in shape throughout the summer, but admitted in an interview that he wanted to play in competitive games. "Life without hockey is boring", said Benn. He picked up an assist in his first German League game Friday and should be one of the league's scoring leaders for as long as he's in Deutschland.
