Vrana had a power-play goal in Wednesday's 4-2 win over Montreal.
EDGE Analysis
The 21-year-old winger redirected a feed off Canadiens defenseman Brandon Davidson's stick past the catching glove of Carey Price midway through the first period. Most notable in the evening was the fact that the first-round pick from the 2014 NHL Entry Draft looked fairly comfortable on a line with Alex Ovechkin and Evgeny Kuznetsov. Vrana has some competition for that spot on the top line, mainly from Tom Wilson and Brett Connolly, but will be given every opportunity to secure a significant offensive role in 2017-18 and has monstrous sleeper potential should he do so. Monitor the situation closely as the preseason unfolds and be ready to snatch him up in the middle to late rounds of your draft if this scenario plays out.

Vrana opened training camp on a line with Nicklas Backstrom and Andre Burakovsky, Tarik El-Bashir of CSN Mid-Atlantic reports.
EDGE Analysis
The 21-year-old is certainly in the spotlight this preseason given that there is an opening for him in the top-six following the offseason departures of Justin Williams and Marcus Johansson. While the coaching staff has been emphatic that Vrana will not be handed anything, his presence alongside Backstrom and Burakovsky at the outset of training camp certainly indicates that the coaching staff will give him every opportunity to secure a spot on the opening night roster. Vrana has significant sleeper potential if he can stick with such talented linemates, so keep an eye on him as the preseason (and your fantasy drafts) unfold.

Vrana will have to fight hard for an Opening Night roster spot with the Capitals, CSN Mid-Atlantic reports. "He's going to have to earn it," Capitals GM Brian MacLellan said. "We're not going to give it to him. He has the potential to do it but his performance will dictate that."
EDGE Analysis
While it's obvious that every player has to earn the right to play at hockey's highest level, we view this as a warning from McLellan that he won't be deploying Vrana strictly based on the center's status as the 13th overall pick from the 2014 draft. As noted in the report, prominent forwards in Evgeny Kuznetsov, Andre Burakovsky, and Brett Connolly are all due for new contracts as restricted free agents -- not to mention that skilled scoring winger T.J. Oshie could test the open market as an unrestricted free agent -- so there's a lot to be determined before one could realistically expect Vrana to make the big leap. The talented Czech appeared in 21 games for the Capitals this past season, recording three goals and just as many assists, though he was left off the playoff roster. At any rate, his potential alone makes him worth a keeper slot or late-round flier in redraft leagues.

Vrana was reassigned to AHL Hershey on Friday.
EDGE Analysis
Arguably Washington's top prospect, Vrana secured a helper on his team's only goal in Thursday's overtime loss to the Predators. While he obviously can't help fantasy owners while in the minors, it bodes well for his development that he's drawn into 21 games as a rookie this season.

Vrana scored a goal in Saturday's 4-2 loss to the Kings.
EDGE Analysis
The 21-year-old winger has two goals and 11 shots in six games since being recalled as Andre Burakovsky (hand) remains on LTIR. The first round pick in the 2014 NHL Draft should be a key contributor for the Caps in the long term, but will have trouble staying in the lineup once Burakovsky returns, so his fantasy value for the remainder of the season remains fairly limited.

Vrana scored the only goal of Thursday's 1-0 win over New Jersey, converting on a power play 7:21 into the third period.
EDGE Analysis
He finished next to last in ice time among Capitals at 10:13, but he led the team in shots with four. That's the kind of stat line you love to see from a young player as he tries to break into the league on a full-time basis. Although his AHL numbers this year have been a bit disappointing, the 21-year-old (who just celebrated his birthday Tuesday) is showing plenty of signs that he's going to grow into a fearsome offensive weapon at hockey's highest level.

Vrana will be in the lineup Tuesday against the Rangers, Tarik El-Bashir of CSN Mid-Atlantic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Vrana has been re-called due to the departure of Zach Sanford in the trade for defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk and the upper body injury that is keeping T.J. Oshie out for a third consecutive game. While he's been producing well at the AHL level, the former first-round pick in the 2014 NHL Draft only as a goal and three points in 13 NHL games this season. He may have some short-term value in deeper leagues, but he'll need better production to stick around once Oshie returns.

Vrana was recalled from AHL Hershey on Tuesday, Tarik El-Bashir of CSN Mid-Atlantic reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Capitals could be without T.J. Oshie (upper body) and Andre Burakovsky (hand) for Tuesday's game against the Rangers, so Vrana and Riley Barber will rejoin the parent club in order to restore some depth at forward for the time being. Vrana, the 13th overall pick in 2014, has an impressive pedigree, but he's yet to claim a full-time role at the NHL level. He's made 12 appearances with the Capitals on the season, supplying one goal and two assists across an average of 11:45 in ice time.

Vrana was reassigned to AHL Hershey on Sunday.
EDGE Analysis
Vrana did not draw into a game during this stint with the big club and, indeed, hasn't drawn into a game since Dec. 27. With the team's next game not until Wednesday, the Caps are likely sending Vrana down to the minors to get some playing time and he could be recalled before the next game considering they only have 12 healthy forwards currently on the roster.

Vrana was summoned to the parent club from AHL Hershey on Friday.
EDGE Analysis
A highly touted prospect hailing from the Czech Republic, Vrana has two years remaining on his entry-level contract. The 20-year-old is in a bit of a unique situation, as he didn't play in any NHL games for the first two years of his ELC, thus he was given an "entry-level slide," meaning his NHL salary of $925,000 hadn't kicked in until this season. The 13th overall pick of the 2014 draft is a dual threat in the sense that he can score and set up goals aplomb, but he hasn't appeared in an NHL game since Dec. 27 and needs consistent ice time to garner attention outside of keeper and dynasty leagues. He just might get that opportunity with Andre Burakovsky (hand) out until mid-March at the earliest.
