It was Allen's first game back in St. Louis since the Blues traded him to the Canadiens on Sept. 2, 2020. He'd spent seven seasons with the Blues. Allen allowed a goal on the game's first shot, and looked a little unnerved. But he settled in and played solid hockey. His teammates simply had no answer for the Blues. If you use Allen on the regular then get him back in your lineup. Just beware the poor play of the bleu, blanc et rouge.

Allen will guard the net for a seventh consecutive game. In the previous six, he's 1-4-1 with a .926 save percentage and 2.84 goals-against average. Those are good numbers, worthy of more than one win, but the Canadiens have offered 13 goals of support during the six-game stretch. Allen faces the organization with which he spent his first eight years and won a Stanley Cup in 2019. The Blues are 9-3-1 at home, including six straight wins entering Saturday's meeting.

Allen made 23 saves Thursday in a 2-0 loss to Chicago.

We just can't imagine where the Habs would be without Allen, who has been the team's best player. But that doesn't make him a strong fantasy asset. Like other nights, he got no help from his mates. In his last 10 starts (which were interrupted by a concussion), Allen is just 2-5-2. But he does face a lot of rubber and that means he can be a depth option in formats that count saves.

Allen will make a sixth consecutive start and his 21st in 28 games when these two struggling original-six teams faceoff for the first time this season. He's played well of late, despite going 0-3-1 over the last four games, sporting a 2.97 GAA with a .918 save percentage. For extra motivation, he'll try to prevent Chicago goalie Marc-Andre Fleury from posting his 500th win.

Allen stopped 24 of 27 shots in Tuesday's 3-2 loss to Tampa Bay.

Allen and the Canadiens were positioned to upset the Lightning, who are third in the Atlantic Division, but the Stanley Cup champions struck for two goals in the final two-plus minutes to leave Quebec with a regulation win. One of the goals was scored by former Hab Corey Perry, who Montreal chose not to re-sign this offseason. It was the fourth straight loss (one in overtime) for Allen, who has played well during that stretch despite the losing record (2.97 GAA, .918 save percentage).

Allen will defend the blue paint during Tuesday's matchup with the Lightning.

The 31-year-old goaltender will try to snap his three-game losing streak in a tough home matchup with a hot Tampa Bay team that's won three straight contests.

The ice was tilted toward Allen, who faced twice as many shots as Juuse Saros on the night. And he almost pushed the game to a shootout, but he couldn't stop the winner at the 4:48 mark of the extra frame. Allen pushed hard across the crease when Mikael Granlund fired a pass cross-crease to Filip Forsberg who lifted it over the netminder. Allen backstopped the Habs to their first point in three games since general manager Marc Bergevin was fired last Sunday. The team will struggle short term, so beware an Allen activation.

He allowed three goals. The Avs came in ornery after an 8-3 smackdown at the hands of the Maple Leafs on Wednesday, and the Habs didn't have much of a response. Allen is a tough activation pretty much every time out. He's 3-5-1 in his last 10 starts, and the team is still reeling after the firing of its general manager and other execs. We recommend using an alternative in your blue paint for now.
