Orlov (wrist) will start the season on the Capitals IR list, Alex Prewitt of The Washington Post reports.
Orlov (wrist) has been skating on his own during training camp as he works his way back from a wrist injury sustained during the 2014 IIHF World Championships in Belarus while playing for the gold medal winning Team Russia. Once healthy, Orlov figures to be reunited with Mike Green, and although he should get some favorable match ups on a deep Capitals defense corps, isn't likely to garner enough significant minutes to be an effective contributor from a fantasy perspective.

Orlov (broken wrist) could be a candidate for injured reserve to start the season, Alex Prewitt of the Washington Post reports.
Orlov has yet to practice with the Capitals during training camp, as he continues to recover from offseason surgery on his injured wrist. With the Capitals projecting a mid-October return for the defenseman, there's a chance he could open the season on the injured reserve list, which would require him to remain there for a minimum of seven days.

Head coach Barry Trotz is hopeful Orlov (wrist) will return to the lineup sometime in early-October, although he indicated there is an "open time frame" for the recovery, Alex Prewitt of The Washington Post reports.
Orlov (wrist) broke his wrist during Team Russia's gold medal-winning performance at the 2014 IIHF World Championships in Belarus this summer. Trotz indicated Orlov has resumed skating and is on track to return to the lineup fairly soon. However, with the arrival of Matt Niskanen and Brooks Orpik, Orlov appears destined for a decrease in the top-4 minutes he saw last season, so he faces an uphill battle to be a solid producer from a fantasy perspective.

Washington has agreed to a two-year, $4-million deal with Dmitry Orlov.
He was eligible to be a restricted free agent this summer. His new deal will pay him $1.75 million in 2014-15 and $2.25 million in 2015-16. Orlov has produced three goals, nine points, 51 hits and 45 blocks in 39 games this season. He has spent most of the year paired with Mike Green, but his fantasy value is still limited at best.

Washington Capitals defenseman Dmitry Orlov was certainly in the thick of things against the Philadelphia Flyers on Sunday.
He enjoyed his first two-goal game (all three of his tallies have come against Philly) and showed a dangerous shot that might get more use after today. Unfortunately for Orlov and fortunately for his fantasy owners, he delivered a potentially suspension-worthy hit that drew five PIM and gave the Flyers a chance to get back in the game. Philadelphia ended up winning 5-4 in OT.
