Dmitry Orlov could stay on with Washington Capitals after his agent requested a trade in early December. Orlov was not playing and did not seem like he was in the plans of the Washington Capitals but lately he has been playing a lot as part of the second defensive unit. "I don't think about what happened in past," said Orlov. "Just about right now. That's all that's on my mind right now -- today." Orlov has been seeing plenty of time with Mike Green on the second unit. Orlov has only one goal and two points in 16 games this season.

Washington defenseman Dmitry Orlov played in just his sixth game of the season on Friday, one more than he played in an injury-marred 2012-13 season. He skated 13:41 on Nov. 30 against the Islanders in his 2013-14 season debut, and has seen a steady uptick in his workload since. On Friday against the Panthers, Orlov played 20:04. He eclipsed the 20-minute plateau for the first time in 23 games, since logging a single-game career high 24:31 in a March 8, 2012 tilt against the Tampa Bay Lightning. More importantly, Orlov looked strong at both ends of the ice on Friday. In a single shift late in the third period of what was a 2-2 game, Orlov made two excellent plays in his own end to diffuse potential Grade A scoring chances for the Panthers. He was also much more assertive with the puck, and had a great look at the net late in overtime.

Dmitry Orlov will make his season debut Saturday. He has been brought up from the minors six times this season because there's a provision in his contract that states he can leave for the KHL on Jan. 1 if he doesn't appear on an NHL roster for a total of 30 games. Orlov's agent has voiced his concern of late regarding the young defenseman's future with the Capitals and earlier this season he suggested that that the team should trade him elsewhere.

Defenseman Dmitry Orlov, 22, has been recalled by the Washington Capitals for the sixth time but has yet to play in an NHL game this season, prompting his agent to say coach Adam Oates doesn't like the way he plays and that Orlov should be traded. Orlov, though, may get to play for the Caps tonight in Long Island. The 22-year-old Russian defenseman has now been recalled by the Caps six times but has yet to play in an NHL game this season, prompting his agent to say Capitals coach Adam Oates doesn't like the way he plays and that Orlov should be traded. Left-handed defenseman Alex Urbom took just three shifts for 2:15 of ice time in Friday night's 3-2 shootout loss to the Montreal Canadiens and did not play after getting beaten behind the net on Danny Briere's first-period goal. Orlov ranks first among Hershey defensemen in points this season with three goals and six assists in 11 games. Orlov has 44 points [12 goals, 32 assists] and 48 penalty minutes in 76 career AHL games. In 65 games for the Capitals he has 20 points [three goals, 17 assists] and 18 penalty minutes. Orlov was drafted by the Caps in the second round [55th overall] in the 2009 NHL draft.
