Orlov has had a great campaign with the Capitals, so it's not surprising that he was on Team Russia's radar. With seven goals and 25 points -- alongside a plus-16 rating -- in 62 games this season, Orlov has put an injury-plagued 2014-15 behind him and has emerged as a top-four defenseman at the NHL level, meeting Washington's expectations when they drafted him 55th overall in the 2009 NHL Draft.

Now paired with Brooks Orpik, Orlov continues to have a breakout campaign in 2015-16, as he has five goals and 23 points in 57 contests and a plus-16 rating. He may lack the power-play opportunities and overall ice time to have much relevance in standard leagues, but the 24-year-old Russian has bounced back tremendously after missing all of last season with a wrist injury and is certainly worth a flier in deeper formats.

While a valuable member of a Capitals defense corps that is exceeding expectations, his lack of power-play time and top-four minutes limit his fantasy value to deeper leagues at the moment.

Despite the absence of Brooks Orpik (lower body), Orlov was on the ice for 15:33 -- compared to his season average of 14:16 -- and maybe his fantasy owners were expecting more ice time than that in this contest. However, Orlov is bound to earn a bigger role if he keeps playing at such a high level offensively.

Orlov rocketed a shot through goaltender Anders Nilsson midway through the third period to give Washington all the offense they needed behind Braden Holtby's 33-save shutout. With three points in his last three games, Orlov is heating up and is worth a closer look in deep leagues.

An early candidate for "goal of the year", Orlov made a between the leg shot off goaltender Calvin Pickard's left shoulder, who thought he had it in his gear, only for Orlov to track the rebound behind the net for a wide wraparound goal on a wide open net. His first goal since March of 2013, Orlov now has points in back-to-back games, and is starting to pick up where he left off after missing all of last season recovering dealing with setbacks following offseason wrist surgery in June of 2014. While his ice time remains limited in a deep defense corps, the former second-round pick is showing glimpses of his talent, so don't be surprised if his role increases as the season unfolds.

EDGE Analysis

This will be Orlov's first NHL action since the 2013-14 season as his long and arduous recovery from a wrist injury suffered in June of 2014 is finally drawing to a close. Paired with Nate Schmidt on the Capitals' third defensive unit, Orlov's value could rise if he sees stable work on the Capitals' power play. While he's worth a look in very deep leagues, those in standard leagues should keep an eye on him in the coming weeks.
