Daniel Cleary potted the game-winning goal in Detroit's 3-2 triumph over Boston Monday afternoon.
He put the Wings up by a score of 3-1 with his first goal of the season during the second period. Cleary's marker came shortly after Stephen Weiss scored his second of the year. Henrik Zetterberg's fifth tally opened the scoring in the first frame.

Daniel Cleary summed up Detroit's 4-1 loss to the Boston Bruins with the statement: "It didn't look like us."
Detroit is projected to battle with the Boston Bruins for the Atlantic Division title, but you wouldn't have known that based on Saturday's contest. In Detroit's defense, it was their third game in four nights. They'll get a rest now before playing the Phoenix Coyotes on Thursday.

Daniel Cleary won't be wearing No. 11 this season.
While Cleary was an unrestricted free agent, Daniel Alfredsson had been given the number. Although Alfredsson was willing to change, the NHL has already begun marketing Winter Classic items under the assumption that Alfredsson would have that number. So instead Cleary will switch to 71 for the 2013-14 campaign.

Coach Mike Babcock wants Daniel Cleary to see some time on the top line with Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg during training camp.
Cleary re-signed with the Red Wings a couple of days ago and thus far Justin Abdelkader has seen action with Datsyuk and Zetterberg. If Cleary does get first line minutes, it won't translate to the first power play but it should help Cleary enough to get 20 goals and 40-45 points this season.

Philadelphia GM Paul Holgrem doesn't resent Daniel Cleary for deciding to stay with the Detroit Red Wings.
"We had a couple conversations leading up to camp, and I knew that's where he wanted to be," Holmgren said. "He spent eight years there and he was hoping to continue his ride with the Red Wings. Good for him. He's a loyal guy, a character guy. He obviously has deep roots with the Red Wings. I actually think more highly of him now than I did a couple days ago." Cleary had accepted an invitation to join the Flyers in camp on a tryout contract, but after talking with Detroit's brass on Wednesday he agreed to a one-year deal to remain with the Wings.

Daniel Cleary has reportedly agreed to a one-year contract worth $1.75 million to stay with the Detroit Red Wings.
The deal he received to join Philadelphia was $8.25 million over the next three years, so he took less to remain in Detroit. Cleary frequently said that he wanted to re-sign with Detroit and he got his wish even though he was very close to becoming a member of the Flyers.

Daniel Cleary's saga has taken another turn and it looks like he's back with the Detroit Red Wings.
He said in a text Thursday morning that he is arriving in Traverse City this evening and signing with the Red Wings. Cleary met with GM Ken Holland and coach Mike Babcock on Wednesday to work out a contract. "He wants to be a Red Wing, he loves the Red Wings, he loves being a Red Wing," Holland said. "He knows his role. He's made a home in Detroit. He knows his teammates. He's been here since 2005. You talk to him. He likes being a Red Wing." It appeared as though Cleary had agreed to sign with the Philadelphia Flyers, but he wasn't at their camp when it opened Thursday morning after he said he would attend on a professional tryout.

Daniel Cleary has reportedly had discussions with the Detroit Red Wings on Wednesday.
Cleary is also allegedly no longer expected to attend the Philadelphia Flyers' training camp due to a "complication." The idea seemed to be that Cleary would attend Philadelphia's camp on a professional tryout offer and then, once the Flyers had put themselves in a better cap situation at the end of the month, Cleary would sign a three-year/$8.25 million deal. For his part, Flyers GM Paul Holmgren both denied that Cleary has been guaranteed a contract and that Cleary won't attend their training camp, which opens Thursday.

Daniel Cleary will reportedly not attend the Philadelphia Flyers' training camp on Thursday due to a "complication."
Cleary and the Flyers reportedly agreed to a three-year/$8.25 million deal that, because of Philadelphia's cap situation, isn't expected to become official until the end of the month. Flyers GM Paul Holmgren denied those reports, but did confirm that Cleary would attend their training camp on a tryout basis. Now, Holmgren is also attempting to shoot down the reports that Cleary will not attend their camp.

The Detroit Red Wings offered Daniel Cleary significantly less in July than the three-year/$8.25 million deal that he will reportedly sign with the Philadelphia Flyers.
Cleary's contract with Philadelphia isn't official and that isn't expected to change until the end of the month. Either way, Detroit offered Cleary a little under $2 million annually for a three-year deal and an alternative that would have paid him a little more per season, but with a shorter term. Both proposals were made in July, before Detroit signed Daniel Alfredsson and Stephen Weiss. They were still willing invite Cleary to their training camp on a tryout basis, but he turned them down. "I'm a big Dan Cleary fan," Red Wings GM Ken Holland said. "I think he really grew into a real solid NHL player in Detroit. He was a good leader. We tried to re-sign him."
