Daniel Alfreddson likley won't get the chance to play against his former team Saturday.
Alfredsson is making progress in his recovery from a groin pull but the Wings won't take any chances with him to avoid re-injury. It's too bad, because we're sure Alfie would have liked to avenge the Red Wings' October 23rd loss to his former club. Barring a setback, Alfredsson should be able to return Wednesday against the Bruins.

Daniel Alfredsson (groin) is doubtful to play Tuesday.
Coach Mike Babcock made his intentions known Monday that he planned to play 11 forwards and seven defensemen Tuesday against Nashville. Alfredsson is day-to-day and he is progressing from his groin ailment. "Last couple of days there has been improvement," he said following his skate after Monday's practice. "It was good to get back on the ice today and work out, and we'll see how it is (Tuesday)."

The veteran was also a scratch Friday, injuring his groin in warmups prior to that game. After playing a man short, the Red Wings recalled Luke Glendening and he will be in the lineup against the Islanders.

Daniel Alfredsson, who was a last-minute scratch Friday due to a groin injury, is listed as questionable for Saturday's contest against the Islanders.
There is a chance the veteran winger could play, but if you have other options up front we would advise you to use them. Alfredsson will likely be a game-time decision. If Alfredsson doesn't suit up Luke Glendening will fill in.

Daniel Alfredsson was a last-minute scratch for the Red Wings in Friday night's tilt against Washington.
Alfredsson, who has three goals and 11 assists in his first 19 games, has a sore groin and sat out as a precautionary measure. Consider the 40 year-old day-to-day.

With the injury to Stephen Weiss there is no logical center to play alongside Daniel Alfredsson on Detroit's second line.
There is also no left winger as Johan Franzen in on the shelf as well. Darren Helm centered Aldfresson and Tomas Tatar at practice Friday. However Helm, who is still not at full speed after missing 18 months of hockey, is not ready for second line minutes. Detroit coach Mike Babcock will not split up natural centers Henrik Zetterberg and Pavel Datsyuk in order to solve the problem. "Someone else is going to learn how to play in the second hole and play well," Babcock said. No telling who that will be, though.

Daniel Alfredsson has scored a goal in each of his last two games.
The Wings need more markers from forwards not named Henrik Zetterberg and Pavel Datsyuk to create some depth scoring and Alfredsson is starting to provide that. His third tally of the year tied Wednesday's game against Vancouver at 1-1 and led to an eventual 2-1 victory. Te veteran winger has 11 points in 13 games this campaign.

Daniel Alfredsson potted a goal for Detroit in its 3-2 overtime loss to the Rangers on Saturday night.
Alfredsson hasn't found his scoring touch yet in Detroit -- this was his second of the season -- but he's still been a productive player with eight assists. We think as he and his teammates adjust, he'll be just fine. The 40-year-old should be a decent source of secondary scoring in fantasy leagues. Drew Miller scored the other goal for the Red Wings.

Daniel Alfredsson and the Detroit Red Wings will host his former team, the Ottawa Senators, on Wednesday night.
"To be honest, I've asked myself, 'How am I going to feel?' I have no idea," he told the Ottawa Citizen. "I think the hardest part is going to be leading up to the game. Once the puck is dropped, it's such a fast game that you get caught up in it and you know what you're going to do. The hardest part is going to be the hours leading up to it." It will be odd for Alfredsson and his ex-teammates to play against each other, but the veteran winger has adjusted well to his new club. He has one goal and eight helpers in 10 contests with the Wings.
