Daniel Alfredsson was scratched from Monday's contest with the Predators due to a an upper body injury. The Red Wings are calling Alfie day-to-day at this point and have not offered any additional details about his condition. His status for Wednesday's Winter Classic should be considered questionable until further notice.

Daniel Alfredsson supplied most of the Red Wings offense in Thursday's 3-2 overtime win against Calgary. Alfredsson factored into all three of Detroit's goals, scoring two of them himself and drawing an assist on the other, which was scored by Joakim Andersson.

The Red Wings are dealing with a number of injuries and as a result have a number of interesting line combinations. Daniel Alfredsson will skate on Detroit's first line alongside Pavel Datsyuk and Justin Abdelkader. The second unit will feature Johan Franzen between Gusav Nyquist and Todd Bertuzzi, while the third line will be comprised of Drew Miller, Joakim Andersson and Tomas Tatar. Daniel Cleary, Luke Glendening and Patrick Eaves will fomr the fourth unit. Adjust your roster accordingly.

Daniel Alfredsson has helped fill a leadership role in Detroit that was left vacant by injuries to Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg. "Once you figure everything out, you get more comfortable, and you kind of do what you feel is right at the right time," Alfredsson said. "I believe when you lose players like we have, guys naturally step up, and we've got to make sure that we still believe in each other and what we can do." Datsyuk is back in the lineup now and when Zetterberg is able to return, Alfredsson should be expected to continue leading on and off the ice. He has seven goals and 16 assists in 28 contests with his new squad.

Daniel Alfredsson was happy to close out a win for Detroit against his ex-Senators teammates in his return to Ottawa Sunday night. "It was nice to kind of seal the game there, because they were pushing and I was thinking, 'here come the Pesky Sens again,'" said Alfredsson. "But we were lucky to get a bounce there and I was able to get free." He scored into an empty net to end the Sens' comeback try and it gave him a goal against all 30 NHL teams. Alfredsson also had an assist in the contest. He received some boos as the match went on, but he was welcomed back nicely at the start of the game.

There's a video tribute planned for Alfredsson and he's expected to be out for the opening faceoff. In 22 games with Detroit, he has picked up six goals and 19 points.

Gustav Nyquist scored his fourth goal of the season at 6:12 of the third period. Niklas Kronwall and Brendan Smith each registered two assists.

Daniel Alfredsson recorded a goal and an assist in Sunday's 3-1 win over Buffalo. The veteran winger was playing in his first game back from a groin injury. His fourth goal of the season was scored into an empty net. Alfredsson played alongside Darren Helm and Justin Abdelkader in the contest.
