Daniel Alfredsson had to take a couple of shifts on defense near the end of Sunday's game.
Game 3 was a chippy and fight-filled affair, which led to plenty of game misconducts and shortened benches. Montreal's Tomas Plekanec got some time on the back end as well as the final minutes ticked away. Alfredsson enjoyed a productive night in Game 3 with a goal and two assists in Ottawa's 6-1 victory.

Daniel Alfredsson has enjoyed plenty of success against the Montreal Canadiens during his career, so he's probably looking forward to Ottawa's playoff opener at Montreal Thursday night.
He has amassed 14 goals and 32 assists in 42 games in Montreal's home rink, the Bell Centre, and he has racked up 105 points in 89 total matches versus the Habs. Alfredsson always seems to be at his most productive versus the Canadiens and they are the club he has victimized the most during his 17-season NHL career. "I've always enjoyed playing in this building. It's a beautiful city, I don't know if that has anything to do with it," he said. "Montreal fans are really passionate. It's always a loud, energetic building. I'm really looking forward to (Thursday) to see how loud they can get."

Daniel Alfredsson isn't thinking about retirement yet, but there's obviously plenty of chatter that this could be his last playoff run.
"My mind is on the playoffs," Alfredsson said. "After that, I will take some time off and go from there." The 40-year-old Ottawa captain posted 10 goals and 26 points in 47 games during the regular season.

Daniel Alfredsson registered an assist in the Senators' 3-1 loss to the Penguins Monday night.
Alfredsson has been one of the steadiest players since entering the league in 1995. The Ottawa captain has 23 points in 44 games for the Senators this year in what could very well be his last NHL season.

Even if the Ottawa Senators weren't in the playoff race, they probably wouldn't have traded 40-year-old forward Daniel Alfredsson.
"I don't think we would have made the decision," said Murray. "Alfie is a Senator and we'd like him to be that for the rest of his career. I don't think there was anytime, other than media speculation, that we were even considering anything with him. We're fortunate though that our team has played the way they are. We've got a good group of young people that play hard. Alfie and some of the veterans have really made a big impression on them. We've been the benefactors because of it." Once Alfredsson retires, which might happen this summer, the Senators will likely offer him the opportunity to remain in the organization in some other capacity. It's possible that the longtime captain will chose to pursue a coaching career.

Daniel Alfredsson and Mika Zibanejad scored power-play goals for Ottawa in Wednesday's 4-3 shootout loss to Montreal.
Both players scored their sixth goals of the season to tie injured defenseman Erik Karlsson for the club lead. Alfredsson has three points, including two markers, in his past four games and is just one point behind Kyle Turris for the team lead. The Senators have played well despite some key injuries, but their offense is still lagging behind.

Daniel Alfredsson snapped a seven-game goalless drought in Wednesday's loss to Toronto.
It's been tough for Ottawa to score goals this season. The Senators rank 28th in the league in goals for per game at 2.21 and their leading goal-scorer is still injured defenseman Erik Karlsson, who netted six markers in 14 games prior to heading to the sidelines. Alfredsson has five goals and 12 points in 23 outings.

Daniel Alfredsson is still a key contributor for the Ottawa Senators in this 48-game shortened season.
At 40-years-old, the Senators Swedish captain ranks second on the team with 11 points (four goals, seven assists). Alfredsson has been one of the steadiest players since entering the league in 1995 and can still help fantasy owners that are playing in deeper leagues. He's probably the best Swedish forward to have ever played in the NHL after Peter Forsberg and Mats Sundin.
