Schneider (hip) won't be ready for the season opener Saturday against the Oilers, Mike Morreale of NHL.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
That will move Schneider's expected return date to Thursday, Oct. 11 against the Capitals. Schneider lost his job to Keith Kinkaid last season before re-gaining it in the playoffs, so expect him to be on a short leash again this campaign, especially with the injury. After six straight seasons above a .921 save percentage, Schneider has spent the last two years below the .910 mark.

Schneider (hip) will join the Devils for their overseas trip to in Switzerland and Sweden, Amanda Stein of the Devils' official site reports.
EDGE Analysis
While there is no guarantee Schneider will be in the lineup for either the preseason clash with SC Bern or Opening Night against the Oilers in Gothenburg, Sweden on Oct. 6, the fact that the netminder is joining the team at least leaves the door open. In the event Schneider is unable to give it a go, Keith Kinkaid figures to deputize in his stead.

Schneider (hip) was on the ice for drills in practice Friday, Amanda Stein of the Devils' official site reports.
EDGE Analysis
It appears to be status quo in regards to Schneider's injury, but it's worth noting that he's been on the ice for rehab multiple times this week. Once Schneider gets going in the regular season, most of the attention will shift to his actual performance, as many a fantasy owner has soured on him after seeing him post save percentages of .908 and .907, respectively, over the last two seasons (100 games).

Schneider (hip) will hit the ice with the non-game group Monday, Amanda Stein of the Devils' official site reports.
EDGE Analysis
Schneider has already been ruled out for the preseason, but his inclusion in on-ice practice sessions opens the door for him to be ready in time for Opening Night. If the Massachusetts native is unable to play versus Edmonton on Oct. 6, Keith Kinkaid should slot in between the pipes.

Schneider (hip) has "absolutely no choice" of playing in either of the preseason-opening contests against the Rangers and Canadiens on Monday, Amanda Stein of the Devils' official site reports, citing Devils coach John Hynes.
EDGE Analysis
This squashes any hope that Schneider would be fit to play after logging an entire practice Saturday. Besides, the Devils aren't confident the netminder will be fit for Opening Night, let alone letting him loose in a game to open the preseason.

Schneider (hip) was present for the entire practice Saturday, Amanda Stein of the Devils' official site reports.
EDGE Analysis
Schneider still isn't out of the woods when it comes to a hip injury that has been bothering him since the 2016-17 season, but the fact that the veteran is out there at all with the team is viewed as a positive sign. Keith Kinkaid is expected to be the de facto No. 1 in New Jersey until Schneider is ready to rock.

Schneider (hip) will not participate in any preseason contests and could miss Opening Night against the Oilers on Oct. 6, Mike Morreale of NHL.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Schneider had been playing through his hip issue since the 2016-17 campaign and finally went under the knife this offseason. The netminder was limited to just 40 games last season, which saw him fail to crack the 20-win threshold for the first time since 2013-14. If the Massachusetts native is unable to give it a go versus Edmonton, the club will have to turn to the winner of the backup battle between Keith Kinkaid and Eddie Lack.

Schneider has been dealing with his hip injury since 2016-17, NJ.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Schneider continues to recover from his hip surgery he underwent in May, but it's now been revealed that he's been struggling with this injury since the 2016-17 season. During that time frame, Schneider's numbers have taken a hit. With the Devils, his save percentage was never lower than .921, and that has dropped to .908 and .907 during his two most recent campaigns. Meanwhile his worst GAA went from a 2.26 to 2.82 and 2.93. New Jersey needs him at his best, so don't expect him to be rushed back. He could miss all of training camp, and the start of the season, giving Keith Kinkaid the reins in net.

Schneider underwent surgery last Tuesday to repair cartilage in his left hip and is expected to require approximately five months of recovery time, the Devils' official site reports.
EDGE Analysis
Schneider will need the entire offseason to recover from the surgery, but, if all goes well, he will likely be ready near the beginning of training camp. This may be the first time since Martin Brodeur's retirement that Schneider will enter camp with competition in the crease after Keith Kinkaid wrestled starts away from the struggling 32-year-old netminder near the end of the season and into the early portion of the playoffs. However, a postseason surge and the team's financial investment in Schneider likely places him atop the depth chart again entering 2018-19.

Schneider made 36 saves in Saturday's 3-1, Game 5 loss to Tampa Bay. He allowed two goals.
EDGE Analysis
Schneider brought his A-game Saturday, but it wasn't enough as the Bolts stymied the Devils' forwards time and time again. The Devils are done for the year after a 4-1 series loss. But Schneider appears to have won back the starter's reins despite Keith Kinkaid's miracle season. That's great news for dynasty owners who struggled in 2017-18 with Schneids as their man in the paint.
