The Ottawa Senators feel they filled a need at the NHL trade deadline when they acquired rookie forward Cory Conacher from Tampa Bay. "His skill set is real high," said GM Bryan Murray. "He's not a big player, but he's quick, courageous, he handles the puck, he makes plays and gets points and if we need anything, we need a point-getter." Oddly enough, the first-year player will join the Senators as their leading scorer with 24 points in 35 games. Injuries to Jason Spezza and Erik Karlsson have sidetracked the team offensively, but they continue to win and currently sit sixth in the Eastern Conference standings.

The Ottawa Senators have acquired Cory Conacher and a fourth round pick from the Tampa Bay Lightning in exchange for Ben Bishop. Conacher has nine goals and 24 points in 35 games this season. Getting a solid, young, top-six forward like Conacher is a big win for Ottawa in this situation. Bishop has been great, but with Craig Anderson close to returning from an ankle injury and Robin Lehner excelling this season, Bishop was expendable.

Cory Conacher netted his first goal in 13 games but Tampa Bay fell Wednesday night 4-2 to the Leafs. The winger also had two penalty minutes in the game. Conacher's production has certainly slowed since his early-season tear, with only four points in March. Still, though, the rookie has greatly exceeded expectations with eight goals and 22 points on the year. Radko Gudas notched the other goal.

Cory Conacher leads all NHL rookies with 20 points and 13 assists after his first 23 games. His play should place him in the mix for the Calder Trophy at the end of the year. Conacher has gone through a couple of rough patches, but he's managed to stay relatively consistent for the first half of the season.

Cory Conacher is on a five-game point streak. Conacher now leads all rookies with 17 points in 18 games. Conacher was never drafted, but the Lightning gave him a chance in the AHL last season and he posted an incredible 80 points and 114 penalty minutes in 75 contests with the Norfolk Admirals. He also stayed strong in the minors during the lockout and it's looking like the Lightning found an ideal diamond in the rough.

Cory Conacher registered an assist in the Lightning's 6-5 overtime win over the Florida Panthers Saturday night. The diminutive forward picked up an assist on Stamkos' goal, ending a six-game stretch without a point. The rookie started the season strong before cooling down but should still be owned in 14-team leagues.

In addition to leading all rookies in scoring with 12 points in eight games, Cory Conacher has some other impressive statistics. He is also a plus eight and leads the NHL in shooting percentage scoring on 41.7% of his shots. Conacher is also tied for the league lead in goals scored with five. It may be a little soon, but many are calling Conacher "Martin St. Louis Jr.". That's pretty high praise.

Cory Conacher was one of three Lighting players to enjoy three-point nights in the team's 8-3 demolition of the Jets on Friday. Conacher has had quite the start to his rookie season. He's played eight games, and he's had multi-point efforts in five of them. Friday, he had two goals and an assist to push his season totals to five goals and 12 points. Vincent Lecaviler and Steven Stamkos each finished with a goal and two helpers. Tampa Bay has 37 goals in seven games, easily the most in the NHL.

Lightning rookie Cory Conacher registered a goal and an assist in a 5-2 win over Florida Tuesday night. Perhaps the early favorite for the Calder Trophy, Conacher has amassed a whopping nine points in six contests so far, though lining up alongside Martin St. Louis and Steve Stamkos doesn't hurt. Stamkos also found the back of the net in the victory, as did Vincent Lecavalier, Tom Pyatt and Dana Tyrell.
