Chris Mason is recovering well from his groin injury. He might be available to suit up by the weekend, but until then Peter Mannino will serve as Ondrej Pavelec's backup.

Chris Mason missed Friday's practice after leaving Thursday's contest due to a groin injury. Given that Ondrej Pavelec allowed seven goals on Thursday, there's a decent chance that Chris Mason will start on Saturday if he's healthy. However, right now he might not even be capable of backing up Pavelec. We'll keep you posted.

Chris Mason briefly replaced Ondrej Pavelec on Thursday, but Mason had to leave the game with a groin injury. "He popped a groin, but I think he's OK. I haven't checked, but I don't think we need to bring someone in," coach Claude Noel said. Pavelec has a 4.19 GAA and .860 save percentage in seven starts this season, so there should be an opportunity for Mason to battle for the starting job if he's healthy. We'll keep you posted.

Chris Mason allowed two goals on 17 shots in the Jets' 2-1 loss to the New York Rangers Monday night. A year ago, Mason was the ideal veteran netminder to have on board for the Thrahers. At the start of training camp, he was a year removed from leading the Blues into the playoffs, and was solid in the starting role the season prior. Unfortunately, his game fell apart last season with Atlanta, and at age 35 the temptation is to say he's fallen off a cliff. There's only a select few goalies 35-years-old and up who can still hold their own until they get pushed aside. Mason seems excited to play in Winnipeg this season but he probably shouldn't be starting on anyone's fantasy roster this season.

Chris Mason was spectacular in relief of Ondrej Pavelec on Saturday. Mason came in and made 18 saves on 19 shots. He held Winnipeg in the game long enough to pick up the win. Mason was good enough to earn another start.

Chris Mason couldn't end the losing ways of the Winnipeg Jets on Saturday. He made his first start of the season in a 4-1 loss to the Phoenix Coyotes after Ondrej Pavelec dropped the team's opening two contests. Mason made 30 saves in the defeat and said following the match that the Jets need to get their minds back on playing. "We had a lot of build-up before the season, being excited about being back in Winnipeg and all that, and I think maybe the hockey got overshadowed a little bit and we're kind of finding out the hard way right now," he said.

Chris Mason returned to practice with his teammates on Wednesday. The Jets backup missed Tuesday's session to be his wife and his new baby girl. Coach Claude Noel wouldn't say who is starting goal on Thursday night against Chicago, but with the long layoff between this game and their opener number one netminder Ondrej Pavelec should get the nod. We'll keep you posted if we hear anything though.

Chris Mason didn't participate in Tuesday's practice because he was busy attending the birth of his second daughter. Coach Claude Noel said he expects Mason to be back prior to Thursday's match-up in Chicago, but if he isn't then the club will have to bring someone up from the minors. Our congratulations go to Chris and his wife on their growing family.

Chris Mason took to the ice on Monday for the first time in Winnipeg. He was joined on the MTS IcePlex ice by New York Islanders defenseman Travis Hamonic, St. Louis Blues tough guy Ryan Reaves, and former Manitoba Moose players Kevin Clark and Nolan Baumgartner for a workout. Mason also expressed how excited he was for the upcoming season and how playing in Canada will be special. Ondrej Pavelec is expected to carry the load for the Jets this campaign, with Mason as his backup.
