It looks as if Boston has settled on its third line.
It will likely be composed of Carl Soderberg, Chris Kelly and Reilly Smith. Both Soderberg and Smith had impressive camps and won the right to play with Kelly. We don't expect much from this unit from a fantasy persepctive, however it will be highly effective in real hockey.

Carl Soderberg scored both goals in the Boston Bruins' 2-0 shutout over the Detroit Red Wings in exhibition play Saturday.
Soderberg certainly helped his chances of solidifying a third-line spot with the Bruins. Soderberg scored 31 goals and 60 points in 54 games in Sweden's top league last season. Chad Johnson notched the shutout for Boston Saturday, stopping all 18 of Detroit's shots. Jonas Gustavsson and Petr Mrazek each allowed goals in the Wings' net. Gustavsson blocked 12 shots; Mrazek, seven.

The Boston Bruins are likely to use Carl Soderberg as a left winger as opposed to a center in 2013-14.
Although nothing is set in stone yet, there's a good chance that Soderberg will start the season on Boston's third line. He should also get some playing time with the man advantage. He scored 31 goals and 60 points in 54 games in Sweden's top league last season. He added another two assists in six contests with the Bruins.

Carl Soderberg spent the summer losing weight and it is showing in training camp.
The Boston Bruins finally brought Soderberg over from Sweden at the end of the 2013 regular season after drafting him in the second round of the 2004 Draft. The 27-year-old has outstanding talent but was easy to take off the puck in his NHL debut. But that has all changed as Soderberg lost 10 pounds in the off-season and is stronger. "He's looking good. He's lost weight, but he's gained some muscle," said coach Claude Julien. "He was already a strong player to start with, but when we've seen him in those battle drills he's been really strong on the puck. We like that about him." Soderberg is likely to start the season on the third line with Chris Kelly. Look for around 15 goals and 30 points unless he gets a lot of playing time on the top two lines in which case his numbers will improve.

Carl Soderberg is slated to play on Boston's third line this campaign.
Coach Claude Julien feels that Soderberg will make a smooth transition after getting some time with the team last season. "Carl is with us. He's been with us for the last two to three months last year, and he comes in now knowing exactly what we want him to do for us," said Boston's bench boss. "Last year he was kind of feeling his way through." He will join Chris Kelly on the team's third line and the other spot is up for grabs with Jordan Caron, Jared Knight, Ryan Spooner, Matt Fraser and Reilly Smith set to compete during camp.

Carl Soderberg skated between Jaromir Jagr and Brad Marchand during Monday's morning skate.
If Patrice Bergeron isn't able to play in Game 6 then it's likely Soderberg will start Monday night's contest on Boston's second line. If Bergeron does play, and coach Claude Julien is "confident" that he will, then Soderberg will probably drop down to the fourth line as a winger.

Coach Claude Julien liked what he saw from Carl Soderberg during Game 5 when he ended up playing on the Bruins' second line, but he isn't ready to commit to giving him that kind of role again just yet.
Boston is still waiting to know the status of Patrice Bergeron before deciding who fits where in their lineup for Game 6 Monday. "Whether (Soderberg plays in the same spot) or not will depend on Bergy," said Julien. "The other thing is, if it's not Bergy, I'm going to look for the right fit. Do I look for something else? I may have to juggle some players around. That will happen more (today) when we find out more about Bergy." Chris Kelly or Rich Peverley could be candidates to move up as well.

Bruins forward Carl Soderberg was thrust into an important role during Game 5 against the Blackhawks due to the injury suffered by Patrice Bergeron.
Soderberg was making his NHL postseason debut in the game as the team's fourth-line winger, but ultimately found himself as the second-line center due to Bergeron's ailment. All things considered, the Swedish transfer acquitted himself well, skating over 14 minutes while winning four of his nine faceoffs. Like all involved, Soderberg expressed hope that Bergeron will suit up for Game 6, saying "Hopefully I'm on the wing the next game, so Bergy is back."

Carl Soderberg is playing in Game 5 on Saturday.
Soderberg only has six games worth of NHL experience, so don't expect him to get much playing time in the Stanley Cup Final. That being said, he had 31 goals and 60 points in 54 Swedish Elite League games this season.

If Carl Soderberg plays in Game 5 then it will give Boston's fourth line a different look.
Soderberg is more of a playmaker, which could blend in well with Rich Peverley, but if Kaspars Daugavins suits up instead then the line, which also features Shawn Thornton, takes on more of a gritty feel. Coach Claude Julien is unsure what direction to take, but since he usually opts for experience it would a tad bit surprising if he decided to go with Soderberg.
