Soderberg had an assist on the power play in his Avalanche debut Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
Soderberg was signed in the offseason to fill the void left by Ryan O'Reilly and started his career in Colorado off with a point. He was among a few Avalanche players to finish plus-1 in the game and skated 16:36. Right now Soderberg is buried on the third line, so his production will likely take a hit in the long term. Look for him to move up the depth chart before considering a waiver claim.

The Avalanche signed Soderberg to a five-year deal Friday, worth an average of $4.75 million per season, ESPN.com reports. The move comes one day after the Avs acquired Soderberg (who was set to become am unrestricted free agent) in a trade that sent a sixth-round draft pick to the Bruins. Soderberg, who turns 30 in October, recorded 13 goals and 44 points in 82 games for Boston this season, but with Bruins dealing with salary cap issues, the team elected to move on. The 6-3 pivot brings good offensive instincts to the table and will boost the Avs' depth down the middle, with the addition of Soderberg possibility hinting that fellow center Ryan O'Reilly may be on the move.

Colorado acquired Soderberg from the Bruins in exchange for a sixth-round pick in the 2016 NHL Draft on Thursday. The Bruins had already made it quite clear that, due to their tough salary cap situation, Soderberg was unlikely to return to the team next season. Soderberg is set to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1, so the Avs' essentially traded a sixth-round pick for the chance to be the first team to enter contract negotiations with the 29-year-old center. Soderberg is likely in for a nice payday, as he's been a key contributor for the Bruins in a bottom-six role over the past two seasons. Ryan Spooner will likely fill Soderberg's vacancy in the Bruins' lineup in 2015-16.

GM Don Sweeney confirmed that Soderberg is not likely to be back with the Bruins next season, csnne.com reports. "In a perfect world, we would be able to retain Carl," Sweeney noted. "It's highly unlikely at this point in time that that will be happening, relative to our overall situation." With the Bruins facing a tough situation in regard to their salary cap, it looks like Ryan Spooner has a good chance to emerge as the team's third-line center in Soderberg's place, while Joonas Kemppainen (who played in Finland last season) was also brought in by the team to add depth up front in anticipation of the departure of Soderberg.

The Bruins do not plan to make a contract offer to Soderberg, whose deal with the team is set to expire next month, the Boston Globe reports. The 29-year-old, who recorded 13 goals and 44 points in 82 games last season, figures to be in for a nice payday as one of the better centers on the free agent market. Given the Bruins' salary cap issues, the team is set to move on and Soderberg's expected departure paves the way for Ryan Spooner to work as the team's third line center this coming season.

Soderberg, who is on track to become an unrestricted free agent, would like to remain with the Bruins. With regard to his anticipated contract negotiations with the Bruins, Soderberg noted Monday that "hopefully we can find a solution together." Soderberg is coming off a 2014-15 season in which he notched 13 goals and 44 points while playing in all 82 of the Bruins' games. Despite Soderberg's stated desire to stay with the team, given the Bruins' current salary cap situation, it's unclear, however, if the two sides will be able find a common financial ground this offseason.

Soderberg started Thursday's comeback against Detroit with a power-play goal, then added an assist on the game-tying goal in what turned out to be a 3-2 victory. That's a four-game point streak now for Soderberg, who's rolled up two goals and four assists over that stretch. His power-play production is well down from last year's 16 points (he's got eight on the man advantage this year) despite nearly identical average ice time, but Soderberg's taken on a bigger role in general this season. If he can continue his current offensive flurry, he's got a chance to match or surpass last year's totals of 13 goals and 32 assists -- he's just one helper shy, but three goals short.

Soderberg set up David Pastrnak's winning goal in Sunday's 2-1 overtime win over the Hurricanes. Soderberg, who dished the puck off to Pastrnak who converted a one-timer at the 4:23 mark of overtime Sunday, now has three points in his last two games, upping his overall scoring line to 12/29/41 in 76 games for the B's this season.

Soderberg scored his 12th goal of the season in the Bruins 4-2 win over the Rangers on Saturday. The goal turned out to be the game winner and one was on three that Boston scored in the first period. Soderberg will never be confused with a goal scorer but can still help in deeper leagues as he does see time on the second power play unit.

Soderberg notched a goal and an assist in Thursday's 6-4 loss to the Sens. With the tally, Soderberg broke a 24-game goal-scoring drought. The big center now has three points in his last two games, on the heels of a six-game stretch without a point, upping his season line to 11/27/38 in 71 games in the process.
