Klingberg announced on Twitter that he will play for Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod of the KHL during the coming season. After finding himself far down the Rangers' organizational depth chart on the wing, Klingberg elected to take his talents to Europe rather than spending another season at the AHL level. Since Klingberg was ticketed for restricted rather than unrestricted free agency, he'll remain the property of the Rangers should he decide to return to the NHL at some point. Klingberg was acquired by New York during the trade deadline as part of the deal that sent Lee Stempniak to Winnipeg.

Klingberg was assigned to AHL Hartford on Monday, Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun reports. The Rangers received Klingberg back from the Jets as part of the Lee Stempniak trade on Sunday, but there wasn't an open spot on the 23-man roster for him. The 24-year-old has provided some strong scoring totals at the AHL level the last four seasons, but will likely be forced to occupy a bottom-six role should he receive an opportunity with the Rangers later in the season.

The Rangers traded Lee Stempniak to the Jets on Sunday in exchange Klingberg. Klingberg has spent the bulk of the season with AHL St. John's, though he did suit up for two games with the Jets this season. He'll provide the Rangers with some added forward depth, but his immediate role with his new organization has yet to be clarified.

Klingberg was reassigned to AHL St. John on Sunday. Klingberg was demoted in order to make room for Blake Wheeler (knee) off the injured reserve list. With just two games spent on the ice with Winnipeg, Klingberg is a candidate to receive a call-up in the future, although he won't likely see significant time on the ice if that happens.

There's a chance Klingberg could play in Thursday's game against the Capitals, as both Mathieu Perreault (lower body) and Drew Stafford (upper body) are dealing with injuries that will force at least one to IR. Rather than inserting Klingberg into the lineup, coach Paul Maurice could instead opt to move Dustin Byfuglien over from defense to fill the void on the wing.

The Winnipeg Jets have inked Carl Klingberg to a one-year, two-way contract. Klingberg will come with a $650,000 annual cap hit if he plays in the NHL. He had 22 goals and 21 assists in 65 AHL games in 2013-14.

Carl Klingberg has been returned to the AHL St. John's IceCaps. Winnipeg's season is over, but the IceCaps will be heading to the playoffs. Klingberg had a goal in three games with Winnipeg this season.
