However, after Hornqvist was able to participate fully during the Pens' morning skate, he was subsequently activated from IR, resulting in Rust's demotion to the AHL. The 22-year-old has two points over his 14 games with the Penguins this season.

Rust was recalled from AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Monday. Rust was with the NHL team earlier in the month and will get another shot with the Penguins dealing with some injuries up front. The 22-year-old has a goal and an assist in 14 contests this season to go along with 15 points in 28 games at the AHL level.

Rust has been assigned to AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, the Penguins' official site reports. Rust's demotion arrives on the heels of the team's addition of Mark Arcobello, who had been waived by the Predators. Rust, who recorded two points in 14 games with the Penguins, has notched 10 goals and 14 points in 24 contests at the AHL level this season.

Rust rang up his first NHL goal Monday against the Lightning. He took two shots in 10:54 TOI. Rust started out on the fourth line as a right winger with Andrew Ebbett at center and Craig Adams on the left, but scored his goal off an Evgeni Malkin feed.

Rust was recalled from AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Saturday, Shelly Anderson of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. Rust is expected to join the lineup Saturday in place of Jayson Megna, who was reassigned to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in a corresponding move. After potting a team-leading 10 goals for the AHL squad, Rust could get the opportunity to flank Evgeni Malkin on the team's second line Saturday. However, once Sidney Crosby (illness) or one of the team's other injured forwards returns to the lineup, Rust would seem most vulnerable at losing a spot in the team's top six.
