Brian Campbell currently leads all NHL players with six power-play points. The veteran defenseman has contributed seven assists in four games this season. Campbell has averaged a whopping 27:50 of ice time per contest, while seeing 7:06 per game with the man advantage. Florida has accounted for eight goals on 25 opportunities for the league's top-rated power play early into the year, which is an incredible improvement from 2010-11 when they finished dead last. We would exercise caution before jumping on the waiver wire though because power plays can run hot and cold at any time, but Campbell's role on the team likely won't change.

The Florida Panthers have added 11 players to their roster over the past week. After conducting massive sell-off at the trade deadline, General Manager Dale Tallon is putting his stamp on the franchise by completely overturning the roster in a matter of months. We're skeptical about whether the team has actually improved this year, but there's no doubt they're moving in the right direction.

The Florida Panthers have tons of cap room going into the 2011 unrestricted free agent period. The Panthers already made two splashes, acquiring Brian Campbell and Tomas Kopecky in separate deals with the Blackhawks. However, they still have more cap space free than any other team out there. The downside is that it will be hard for them to truly make a big splash because there isn't much in the way of star talent on the market. This year's unrestricted free agent list is primarily made up of support players who might get paid like stars because of the number of teams with both needs and cap space. The Panthers still need to spend to reach the cap floor, but they also need to guard against going crazy on Friday and signing players to contracts that they'll regret in the future.

Florida GM Dale Tallon was very pleased to acquire defenseman Brian Campbell in a trade with the Blackhawks. Tallon was responsible for signing Campbell to the $7 million per season long term deal currently in effect while he was the Chicago general manager. "He played 28 minutes a game, offense, could move the puck out of his zone, could skate like the wind," Tallon said were the reasons he gave Campbell the huge deal in '08. "It's a dimension a lot of teams don't have." Look for Campbell to get plenty of ice time in all situations in Florida. His offensive upside may be limited somewhat by the quality of his teammates, but Campbell should be able to rebound from a subpar 2010-11 campaign and enjoy a 45-point season.

Contrary to public opinion, the Blue Jackets did not have a discussion to acquire Brian Campbell. Word surfaced late Friday that Campbell had rejected the notion of going to Columbus. No deal was actually discussed, according to CBJ GM Scott Howson. Campbell was then traded to Florida for Rosti Olesz.

The Blackhawks have traded Brian Campbell to the Florida Panthers for Rostislav Olesz. Florida desperately needed a power-play quarterback and now they have one in Campbell. He will be a tremendous mentor to Dmitri Kulikov who does lose a little fantasy value in the short term as he will not be the primary point man on the Cats' power play. Campbell is a gifted offensive player but will have more trouble generating points in Florida than he did in Chicago, San Jose and Buffalo as the Panthers are somewhat talent challenged. Don't count on more than 45 points from him next season.

Brian Campbell is reportedly willing to waive his no-trade clause to play for the Florida Panthers. It's not yet clear who the Panthers would give up in return. Campbell comes with an ugly $7.140 million annual cap hit, but that's actually not such a bad thing for the Panthers, given that they need to increase their payroll significantly just to meet the 2011-12 cap floor. Campbell's playing time with the man advantage has been slipping in Chicago, but he should get plenty of power-play playing time with the Panthers if he ends up getting traded. Stay tuned.

Brian Campbell was asked to waive his no-trade clause and declined, according to ESPN's Jesse Rogers. That is might related to a rumor floating around that Columbus and Chicago were talking about a trade involving Campbell. He comes with a $7.140 million annual cap hit through the 2015-16 season, which is a big problem for Chicago because they already have cheaper and arguably better offensive defensemen in Duncan Keith and Brent Seabrook. Additionally, Campbell might be more likely to return to the 50-point milestone if he's on a team that can give him more ice time with the man advantage. It seems like a trade would make sense for both Chicago and Campbell in the long run, but it looks like it won't happen. We'll let you know if anything changes.
