Brian Campbell is one of the three finalists for the Lady Byng Trophy. This award goes to a player who had an excellent year while still exhibiting "sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct." That's typically measured by a players ability to stay out of the sin bin. Campbell had an impressive 53 points in 82 games while collecting just six penalty minutes. A blueliner hasn't won the Lady Byng Trophy since Red Kelly earned it for his play in 1953-54.

Brian Campbell picked up just six minutes in penalties during the 2011-12 campaign, while averaging a whopping 26:53 of ice time per match. His average ice time tied Chicago's Duncan Keith for the highest in the league, but unlike Keith he skated in all 82 games. Campbell also concluded the year tied for second among all defensemen with 53 points. His lack of time spent in the penalty box should garner him contention for the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy.

The Florida Panthers will win their first division title in franchise history tonight if they end their regular season with a victory over the Carolina Panthers, and veteran defenseman Brian Campbell is asking his team to treat the game as if it were a playoff match. The Panthers go into Saturday with five consecutive losses and eight losses in the past nine games. Of those nine games, however, Florida has secured at least a point in all but three. The division championship brings the third spot and a first-round meeting (with home-ice advantage) against New Jersey. If Washington beats the Rangers tonight, and the Panthers lose, the Panthers would drop to eighth and play the top-seeded New Yorkers in the post-season. "We have picked up points by going to overtime almost every night,'' Brian Campbell said. "It doesn't matter how you get in. ... We need to bring our playoff game on Saturday.''

Brian Campbell registered two assists in Thursday's game. The Chicago Blackhawks trading Campbell to Florida has proven to be the best thing that could have happened to him. Campbell is having one of the best seasons of his career with 51 points, including 30 with the man advantage. As long as he can stay healthy, he should be able to easily surpass the 40-point mark again in 2012-13.
