Point went scoreless on four shots through overtime Tuesday against the Panthers, but beat James Reimer for the winning goal in the shootout.
EDGE Analysis
A third-round pick by the Bolts in 2014, the 20-year-old has made the leap straight to the NHL after a massive campaign in juniors last year (88 points in 48 games for WHL Moose Jaw). He certainly doesn't look out of place on NHL ice, but with Ryan Callahan (hip) likely only a couple weeks from returning, Point may end up back in junior hockey as a victim of the numbers game. He's got another six games to prove to Tampa's management that he should stay right where he is.

Point had a goal and an assist in Tampa's preseason finale against Nashville on Saturday night.
EDGE Analysis
He skated on the team's second line with Tyler Johnson and Alex Killorn in the spot normally held by Nikita Kucherov, who remains unsigned and away from camp. There are two spots on the right wing open right now with Kucherov and Ryan Callahan away from the team, and Point performed well Saturday against a strong Preds lineup. He may get more than a nine-game audition with the Bolts this season.

Point is one of 27 players remaining in Tampa's camp and remains in the hunt to earn a roster spot.
EDGE Analysis
The Bolts have an open roster spot because of Ryan Callahan's recovery from hip surgery. Point has two goals in three games, but preseason games get tougher at this point now that rosters have been cut down. He may still end up in the AHL, but his performance has caught the eyes of team brass.

Point has impressed this preseason and Lightning coach Jon Cooper says his hockey sense is "off the charts.".
EDGE Analysis
Point scored in each of his first two preseason games and almost had another in his third. The Bolts vow to take their time with Point, but associate coach Rick Bowness was enthusiastic in his praise for the center. "Last year he impressed us, and he's a much better player this time around," Bowness said. "He's more confident, he's stronger, he's quicker. He's better in all facets of the game. He's a smart hockey player. Guys with his speed and skills and hockey sense ... they're going to play (in the NHL). When is yet to be determined." Stash him on your keeper rosters. This guy is going to be a player.

Point was invited to Team Canada's selection camp for the World Junior Hockey Championship team. He is one of 30 players invited.
EDGE Analysis
He's having a fantastic season with Moose Jaw in the WHL and currently sits second in league scoring with 43 points (18 goals, 25 assists) in just 19 games. He sits just two points behind the league leader, who has played seven more games.

Point had a goal and three assists in Moose Jaw's (WHL) 7-1 win over Saskatoon on Saturday.
It's been quite a season for Point. The diminutive forward cracked the Canadian roster for the World Juniors and after starting the tournament as the team's 13th forward, an injury to Robby Fabbri led to an increased role and he excelled. Point's also played extremely well for Moose Jaw with 32 goals and 78 points in 54 games. Despite his lack of size, Point's hockey sense gives him a real chance to be a consistent contributor at the NHL level eventually.
