Copp was recalled Wednesday from AHL Manitoba.

Copp was brought in following the decision to place Shawn Matthias (lower body) on injured reserve. In eight games with the Moose this season, Copp has five helpers along with four PIM and 13 shots on goal. It is unclear whether the 22-year-old will suit up Thursday against Washington or if he was called up to add emergency depth as the team kicks off a three-game road trip.

Copp was one of four players reassigned to AHL Manitoba on Monday.

Copp notched his second goal of the season on Tuesday after not finding the back of the net in his previous 45 outings. The 21-year-old now has six points on the season. Although he does have 60 hits in 56 games, Copp is not going to be of much worth outside the deepest of fantasy leagues at this point in his young career.

Leading up to Tuesday, all indications were that Copp would suit up against Minnesota, but now there is confirmation. He will be reinserted as the Jets' fourth-line centerman, and will be flanked by Chris Thorburn and Nic Petan. This configuration of the fourth line possesses more offensive ability than Copp has been accustomed to playing with in Winnipeg, with Petan entering for banger Anthony Peluso, and could be a boon for Copp's production if the line remains intact.

After initially being a doubt for Tuesday's contest, head coach Paul Maurice is now expecting Copp to be available when the Jets take on the Wild. Patrice Cormier, who filled Copp's typical role as fourth line center Saturday, was reassigned to AHL Manitoba on Monday, and Copp was a full-participant in Monday's practice. Copp has done well to earn Maurice's confidence this season, and upon his return, may receive more responsibility as a result

Even upon his return, Copp isn't a viable fantasy option at the moment, with two points and nine shots on goal in 11 games. Copp does have offensive potential though, and should produce if he is given a chance to play in the Jets' top-six forward group.

Hopefully, he can overcome the injury without any setbacks to continue getting valuable experience among the group of bottom-six forwards. He's equal parts scorer and playmaker and his frame, at 6-foot-2, 210 pounds, is acceptable for the extremely physical play that goes down on NHL ice. At this point, the former fourth-round pick (2013) probably fits best on the team's fourth line if he is to win the job out of training camp.

The 2013 fourth-round pick went unused during the Jets' first-round series exit, but the size he presents (6-foot-2, 210 pounds) along with the strong leadership and decision-making he demonstrated during his time at Michigan could make him the Jets' best internal option to pivot the checking line. Holdovers Anthony Peluso and Matt Halischuk likely represent Copp's top competition for that role.
