Lowry scored the second of a three-goal third-period barrage that forced overtime. It ultimately wasn't enough to win, but does give the 23-year-old American goals in consecutive contests following a nine-game dry spell to open the season.

Lowry took six shots and scored his first goal of the year in Tuesday's 3-2 loss to the Capitals.

After Mark Scheifele broke up Braden Holtby's shutout bid with less than seven minutes remaining in the third period, Lowry's goal with just 2:25 left on the clock tied the game; unfortunately, the Caps ended up winning on a goal with 30 seconds left. This game still represents a major step forward for Lowry, who had been fairly awful to start the season. Those six shots actually doubled his total from the prior nine games, a span in which he'd collected one assist and a minus-1 rating. Of course, those using Lowry in fantasy are probably more interested in his hits and PIM, both of which have been trickling out just a bit slowly (19 and eight, respectively) over the season's first 10 games.

Lowry is averaging 14:12 of ice time per night on the Jets' fourth line which includes 2:21 on the power play.

EDGE Analysis

Lowry continues to see time with the man advantage despite being at the bottom of the Jets' even-strength depth chart. The center's days on the PP could be numbered considering he has failed to record a point and coach Paul Maurice could be looking for a spark for a power play that is seventh worst in the league at 12.5 percent.

Lowry, on Thursday, signed a two-year contract extension with the Jets valued at $1.125 million annually.

EDGE Analysis

Lowry is a bruiser, having collected 187 hits in 74 games last season, his second go-around in the NHL. As a third liner, Lowry hasn't seen a whole lot of ice time -- 14:01 average last season -- which limits what he can do offensively. Consider clicking on his name in fantasy drafts if you need hits, but understand that he'll be hard to rely on in other categories.

Lowry received 10 PIM for misconduct and added a hit in Thursday's 3-2 loss to Detroit.

EDGE Analysis

The winger isn't necessarily known for being sent to the box, coming into the game with 129 PIM in his three-year career. However, Lowry does succeed in laying an opponent out, as he sits at 158 hits on the year. That alone keeps the 22-year-old as an option for leagues that reward punishing blows.

Lowry banged home a goal against Dallas on Tuesday in his first game back from injury.

EDGE Analysis

Lowry was in the midst of a six-game pointless streak when he was hurt, but was able to end the drought. Not a prolific scorer, Tuesday's tally was just the center's fourth of the season. Given the infrequency of his presence on the scoresheet and his lack of time on the power play, the 22-year-old is a stretch in even the deepest of leagues.

Lowry (upper body) will return to the lineup Tuesday night against the Stars, Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun reports.

EDGE Analysis

Lowry's upper-body ailment proved to be a moderate issue as it had forced him out of five straight games. However, the All-Star break appears to have served him well. Lowry plays aggressively as he averages 2.88 hits per game, currently higher than anyone else on the Jets.

Lowry hasn't played since mid-January because of the upper-body issue, but he's optimistic that stretch of absences will come to a close Tuesday. The team will need to officially activate him from injured reserve before the contest if that's to be the case, so expect another update if or when that happens.

Lowry's placement on injured reserve was retroactive to Jan. 14, so while he won't play Monday, he could return as soon as the team's next game Thursday against the Predators. The team should provide another update on the winger's status at some point prior to his return.

It's unclear what the injury is or how it occurred, but the undisclosed issue will hold him out of Friday's contest at a minimum. The Jets have a couple days off, making Lowry's next chance to play Monday against the Avalanche. Adam Pardy will join the forward ranks Friday in his place.
