Tim Tebow rushed once for 22 yards in Sunday's loss to the Steelers. Tebow played only 3-4 snaps, and wasn't asked to attempt a pass. His rush came on a read option. He handed it off to Joe McKnight for a 12-yard gain one play later. Tebow has been little more than a circus act through New York's first two games, touching the ball only six times, but that could change after Mark Sanchez's cartoonishly bad performance this afternoon. He's worth keeping in mind in deeper two-QB leagues.

An NFL source tells the Daily News that Tim Tebow could ask for a trade following this season. This is a case of connecting the dots, not a report from Tebow's camp. He is a highly competitive guy that wants to start. And if Week 1 is a sign of things to come, Mark Sanchez isn't going to relinquish the starting job this season. So the source suggests that Tebow, who won't hit free agency until 2015, will ask for a ticket out of town. This will probably be a moot point because we anticipate Week 1 being Sanchez's finest performance of the season.

Coach Rex Ryan confirmed that Tim Tebow would start if Mark Sanchez got injured. If Sanchez went down, the Jets would have to change their entire offense. Through three preseason games, Tebow struggled mightily as a drop-back passer, completing 36.1 percent of his passes with no touchdowns and two interceptions. He can't play the position in a conventional manner. Greg McElroy is the No. 3 quarterback.

Jets OC Tony Sparano says the Jets will use the wildcat package on "100 and something snaps out of 1,100 snaps". That works out to about six plays per game. The math makes sense when you consider that Tim Tebow doesn't figure to handle more than a half dozen or so offensive snaps on a normal week. Expect to see the formation quite a bit in short yardage situations, especially inside the five. Tebow is sure to snipe a handful of touchdowns from Shonn Greene.

Tim Tebow completed 4-of-14 passes for 55 yards and an interception in Sunday night's third preseason game against Carolina. He's not putting any heat on Mark Sanchez in the passing department, but Tebow's five rushes for 45 yards ought to turn some heads among run-minded Jets coaches. Through three preseason games, Tebow is 13-of-36 (36.1 percent) for 151 yards (4.19 YPA), no touchdowns, and two interceptions. He's rushed 11 times for 84 yards (7.64 YPC), though, and remains an effective running quarterback.

Tim Tebow has completed just 9-of-22 passes (40.9 percent) for 96 yards (4.4 YPA) and an interception through two preseason games. Tebow has also absorbed four sacks -- all four coming Saturday night via the Giants -- while rushing six times for 39 yards. Meanwhile, Mark Sanchez is 13-of-17 (76.5 percent) for 80 yards (4.7 YPA) and a pick. Dealing with heavy pressure and Santonio Holmes' (rib, back) absence, neither Jets quarterback has gotten anything going in the downfield passing game. Tony Sparano's offense, impressively, has yet to score a single touchdown through two preseason weeks.

Tim Tebow had a mixed Jets debut in Friday's preseason opener against the Bengals, completing 4-of-8 passes for 27 yards and an interception, adding four rushes for 34 yards. As expected, he also served as P T.J. Conley's personal protector. Tebow completed a few nifty passes to second-rounder Stephen Hill, but also threw a horrific pick to rookie LB Vontaze Burfict. Locked onto TE Jeff Cumberland, Tebow never saw Burfict. Two of Tebow's run attempts were Houdini-like escapes from a collapsing pocket, while three of his four rushes went for 10 or more yards. Humorously, the first punt with which he didn't serve as Conley's protector was blocked for a touchdown by the Bengals.

The Jets unveiled Tim Tebow's goal-line package during Thursday's practice. Previously, we had only seen Tebow in the conventional offense and as a personal protector for the punt team. On Thursday, he led the second-team offense to three touchdowns during a goal-line drill. He ran for one on a bootleg, threw to a tight end for another and scored a third out of the Wildcat. We're expecting to see Tebow dominate goal-line work right out of the gate.

ESPN's Ron Jaworski is live at Jets training camp and says he's observed improvements in Tim Tebow's throwing motion. If so, Mark Sanchez had better watch his posterior. "The one thing I've noticed about Tim Tebow - and it's a small sampling thus far - is his stroke is much better," said Jaworski. "It's cleaner. It's not as elongated. He's not dropping the football. That means the ball will come out quicker." Tebow still isn't perfect, but any small improvement could have positive on-field ramifications. We like Tebow's chances of making several 2012 starts.

Tim Tebow now weighs 251 pounds. The 6'3" Tebow played last year around 240 pounds. Per ESPN New York, the Jets asked him to bulk up so he can "withstand the pounding that will occur when he carries the ball out of the Wildcat package." We're expecting Tebow to handle a significant amount of the short-yardage and goal-line work. He's not going to beat out Mark Sanchez for the starting quarterback job.
