Smith caught five passes for 19 yards on a team-high nine targets in Sunday's 13-7 win over the Bills.
EDGE Analysis
Smith and Mike Wallace started and led the way in targets, but the Ravens used a five-deep rotation at wide receiver, with Breshad Perriman, Kamar Aiken and Chris Moore also getting significant snaps. While it's possible Smith could take on more snaps as the season moves along, Baltimore's depth at wide receiver could make it tough for any of the bunch to produce on a weekly basis. Smith does get a better matchup in Week 2, facing a Browns team that was blown out by the Eagles on Sunday.

Smith (Achilles) is not listed on Wednesday's injury report.
EDGE Analysis
With Breshad Perriman (knee) also absent from the injury report, it appears Joe Flacco will have all of his wide receivers available Week 1 against the Bills. Smith was the clear go-to guy early last season, but there's more competition for snaps and targets this time around, and he may be somewhat limited after missing the entire preseason. Given that Perriman, Mike Wallace and Kamar Aiken could also have key roles, it's best to take a wait-and-see approach with the Baltimore receiving corps.

Smith (Achilles) will not play in the Ravens' third preseason game Saturday against the Lions, The Baltimore Sun reports.
EDGE Analysis
Smith, who had torn his Achilles' tendon last November, was activated from the team's PUP list just last week. Thus, his participation in Saturday's preseason tilt was always considered doubtful. His Week 1 status remains questionable.

Smith (Achilles) rejoined his teammates at practice Thursday, the Baltimore Sun reports.
EDGE Analysis
Though Thursday's session was described as "essentially a walk-through" in advance of Saturday's game against the Colts, Smith's presence after coming off the PUP list, is nonetheless a welcome one for the Ravens. At age 37, and bouncing back from a serious injury, Smith comes with some question marks as the 2016 campaign approaches. That said, given his high level of toughness and determination, it's unwise to count out the veteran wideout.

Smith (Achilles) has passed his physical and will return to practice soon.
EDGE Analysis
The Baltimore Sun adds that Smith, who is thus slated to be officially activated off the Ravens' PUP list in short order, is expected to practice in some capacity as early as Monday. The Ravens' second preseason tilt takes place Saturday against the Colts, after which Smith -- who tore his Achilles last November -- will look to reprove his health and demonstrate that at age 37, and coming back from a serious injury, he can still excel at the NFL level. He has much to prove on that front as Week 1 quickly approaches, but it's too soon to count Smith out, given his toughness and determination.

Smith (Achilles) suffered a rare double rupture of his right Achilles, and the muscle surrounding his tendon is still significantly atrophied, according to Dan Pompei of the Bleacher Report.
EDGE Analysis
The latest report sheds light on Smith's rehab process, which has apparently been even more grueling than expected due to the extreme nature of his torn Achilles. Dr. Robert Anderson, one of the leading orthopedic surgeons for professional athletes, told Smith it was the first time he had ever seen a double Achilles rupture. Already facing an uphill climb, Smith figures to miss most or all of training camp, leaving him on the doubtful side of questionable for the start of the season. He still needs time to build his leg back to strength before he can even think about resuming normal workouts with his teammates. A mid-season return in a part-time role seems like a realistic target for the 37-year-old wideout.

Smith (Achilles) will start training camp on the PUP list, Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reports.
EDGE Analysis
This is an unsurprising move as it has already been announced that the veteran Smith would not be playing in the preseason. He suffered his Achilles injury on Nov. 1, and was not able to participate in any offseason workouts. His role with the team this season remains uncertain until he is able to display he has recovered from the serious injury. However, the Ravens have relatively thin depth in their receiving department, so he will have plenty of opportunity to produce if he can get healthy.

Smith (Achilles) will not play in the preseason, ESPN.com reports. "I've been very comfortable throughout my career not playing in the preseason," Smith said Wednesday. "So, I don't have a problem with that. [it's] just four games that don't count and the liability of injury. At the senior-citizen age that I am, I think staying out would be good."
EDGE Analysis
Although Smith isn't worried about missing the preseason, he did say just a few days ago that he'll need to get some work in at training camp if he's going to be ready by Week 1. Recovering from a torn Achilles suffered Nov. 1, the 37-year-old wideout hasn't taken part in any offseason workouts and doesn't seem to have much chance of being ready for the start of training camp. He still hopes to be available at the start of the season, and his presence (or lack thereof) may be even more important than expected, as Breshad Perriman (knee) now faces a potentially-lengthy rehab process of his own. Of course, there's no guarantee Smith will be productive if he's available, given his age and the serious nature of his injury.

Smith (torn Achilles) said he isn't sure when he will be available, adding that he probably can't play in Week 1 unless he gets in some work at training camp, ESPN.com reports. "I don't know when I'm coming back," he said. "I just know I have to be able to do something in training camp to be able to play for the season. That's just the way I operate. I can't go from doing absolutely nothing [and] sitting on my butt for all of training camp and then go out there and play."
EDGE Analysis
Still recovering from a torn Achilles suffered Nov. 1, the 37-year-old Smith has progressed to jogging but seemingly still has quite a ways to go. While doubtful to be ready for the start of camp in late July, he might be available at some point in August, which would give him a few weeks to prepare for the start of the season. Even if he's available, there's no assurance Smith will look like the same player we saw last year, as Achilles' ruptures often sap players of their explosiveness for quite some time after the injury is healed. Meanwhile, the Ravens got some good news Tuesday when it was announced that fellow wideout Breshad Perriman (knee) should be able to rehab his partially-torn ACL without reconstructive surgery. Still, Perriman and Smith should both be considered questionable for Week 1, possibly leaving Kamar Aiken, Mike Wallace and others to carry a heavier burden than might have otherwise been expected.

Smith (Achilles) seems to be on track in his recovery, The Baltimore Sun reports.
EDGE Analysis
There aren't any concrete details, as neither Smith nor his team has commented on the injury in recent weeks. He'll presumably miss a good chunk (or all) of training camp and the preseason, yet hopes to be on the field when the Ravens face the Bills in Week 1. Prospective owners should keep in mind that Smith will only be 10 months removed from a torn Achilles, an injury that often saps players of their effectiveness for quite some time after they're able to play in games. Teammate Terrell Suggs and Raiders wideout Michael Crabtree are among the most notable examples of players that made quick recoveries from torn Achilles tendons, only to discover that they were shells of their usual selves upon first returning. It's also worth noting that the Ravens significantly improved the depth of their receiving corps, after heavily relying on Smith for the first half of last season, and then turning to Kamar Aiken down the stretch. Aiken, Breshad Perriman and Mike Wallace are all expected to have significant roles.
