The Sideline View's Adam Caplan reports the 49ers are "looking to add a veteran cornerback with size." A four-year veteran who stands in at 6-foot-3, 214 pounds, free agent Sean Smith certainly fits the bill. Smith has already been connected to the 49ers, and could perhaps be signed with the money they'll save by letting S Dashon Goldson walk. At 6-foot-2, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie is another possibility.

Yahoo Sports' Jason Cole reports that the Patriots, Bucs, and Cardinals appear to be the "leading candidates" to land Sean Smith in free agency. Cole concedes "things are fluid," and interestingly doesn't include the Eagles among Smith's leading landing spots. Arizona needs a bookend for Patrick Peterson, and new defensive coordinator Todd Bowles is a former Dolphins assistant. The Patriots are considering moving on from fellow free agent Aqib Talib. The Bucs have the most cap space of the trio and Smith's stated desire is to "get paid."

After signing CB Dunta Robinson, the Chiefs are no longer interested in CB Sean Smith. Robinson is believed to be getting starter money from the Chiefs. With Brandon Flowers also getting paid as a starter, giving Smith top-of-market money no longer makes sense. The Eagles, 49ers, Buccaneers, and Lions have all been rumored to have interest in Smith.

The Miami Herald reports "between three and five teams" have contacted free agent CB Sean Smith since midnight Saturday. So, four. We kid. The Eagles and Chiefs are believed to be two of the teams, and the 49ers, Buccaneers, and Lions have been previously rumored as having some level of interest. Smith's market ought to heat up a bit on Saturday.

The Eagles are "still in the mix" for free agent CB Sean Smith. Smith's representatives have been contacted by the Chiefs and Eagles -- and likely others -- since the legal tampering window opened at midnight. Philadelphia has money to blow and a huge need on the outside. Smith will likely be one of the heaviest "blurbed" players here at Rotoworld over the next five days.

NFL Network's Albert Breer reports the Chiefs have "shown an interest" in free agent CB Sean Smith early on in the legal tampering period. Even with the signing of Dunta Robinson earlier on Friday night, the Chiefs are still interested in the 25-year-old Smith. He had reportedly already been in contact with Chiefs DBs coach Al Harris two weeks ago. Smith is reportedly seeking $7 million to $7.5 million annually. Brandon Flowers, Robinson, and Smith would be quite the trio at corner.

ESPN's Adam Schefter estimated on NFL32 that Sean Smith will command in the range of $7 million to $7.5 million annually in free agency. Per Schefter, Smith is widely viewed around the league as the top cornerback available. We prefer Aqib Talib, and perhaps teams would if he were cleaner off the field. Smith, who played college ball at Utah, is squeaky clean and only 25 years old. Look for the Chiefs, Eagles, Buccaneers, and perhaps Jaguars to contact Smith when the negotiating period opens Friday at midnight.

Appearing on Total Access Tuesday, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported the Chiefs will target a cornerback in free agency. The Chiefs have money to burn and a major hole opposite Brandon Flowers, so it's not a surprise. They could be targeting Sean Smith, who has reportedly already been in contact with Chiefs DBs coach Al Harris. Harris was a defensive assistant with the Dolphins last season. If Smith is the Dolphins' target, they'll have to open their wallet, as his reported priority is to "get paid."
