Chiefs agreed to terms with CB Sean Smith, formerly of the Dolphins, on a three-year contract. The news - which was first "reported" by Smith's former teammate Vontae Davis two weeks ago - comes via Smith's agent. He joins Brandon Flowers and Dunta Robinson to form one of the league's better cornerback trios, though Robinson could still end up at safety. It's the same failed strategy Andy Reid adopted in Philadelphia, but he's willing to give it a second chance as division-rival Denver transforms itself into an offensive colossus. Regardless of where Robinson plays, Smith will bookend Flowers on the outside. The Chiefs might not be ready to compete for a playoff spot, but are going to be a far tougher out in 2013.

NFL.com's Albert Breer reports the Raiders are "vying" for free agent CB Sean Smith, in addition to the Chiefs. The Raiders weren't thought to be in play for any blue-chip free agents, but have jumped into the bidding as division rival Denver transforms itself into an offensive colossus. We doubt Oakland has the money to make the winning bid, but Smith's top priority is to "get paid." If Oakland can actually make the top bid, they'd be in position to make one of the more unexpected splashes of free agency.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Chiefs are in pursuit of free agent Sean Smith, and Kansas City is "clearly" a viable landing spot.

A source tells CSN Bay Area that the 49ers are not involved with free agent Sean Smith. We can now scratch the Niners and Eagles off Smith's suitor list. The Dolphins are reportedly interested in bringing him back and there are two other mystery teams involved. Perhaps the Bucs will settle for Smith if they can't get a Darrelle Revis trade done.

A source tells CSN Philly that the Eagles are out of the running for free agent CB Sean Smith. When free agency opened, the Eagles were in the market for two new starting corners to replace Nnamdi Asomugha and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie. They've signed Bradley Fletcher, but never appeared to be in the mix for Chris Houston or Derek Cox. Perhaps they're waiting out the market in hopes of a cheaper option like Cary Williams or Keenan Lewis. Smith, our No. 3 corner available, has surprisingly generated very little buzz this week.

A source with knowledge of the NFL market tells Profootballtalk.com that "multiple teams" plan to wait for the weekend to push for top-shelf free-agent cornerback Sean Smith. The teams want to go "bargain shopping" after a slow initial 30 hours on the cornerback market. Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, a top-five free-agent corner, settled for a one-year deal. Chris Houston got an affordable $5 million annually and was a top-seven or eight cornerback. It's fair to wonder if NFL teams are engaging in collusion, avoiding Smith, Aqib Talib, Brent Grimes, and to a lesser extent Keenan Lewis in order to keep their price tags down.

The Eagles, 49ers, Chiefs and Bucs are all reportedly in the mix for free agent CB Sean Smith. Even though the corner market is deep, Smith could instigate a bidding war. The Eagles are looking for two starting corners and the Bucs had the worst secondary in the league last year. Both have plenty of cap space to go after the physically imposing Smith.

A league source tells the Miami Herald neither CB Sean Smith nor LT Jake Long are a "certainty" to leave the Dolphins in free agency. Corner and tackle are among the deepest positions in free agency, so it's not a surprise. Both players have been transparent about seeking top dollar, but the Dolphins could still end up the highest bidder depending on how the open market shakes out. Long is probably more likely to return than Smith.

The Arizona Republic confirms free agent Sean Smith's price tag is "likely too high" for the Cardinals. The Cardinals were previously floated as a potential Smith suitor, but they do not have much money. Cards beat writer Kent Somers considers Greg Toler, and perhaps Arizona alum Antoine Cason, to be likelier targets. Teams in the hunt for Smith had better be ready for a bidding war. He's a lock to get overpaid.

CSN Bay Area's Matt Maiocco reports the 49ers are expected to "make a run at the right price" on free agent Sean Smith. The 49ers are in the market for a "cornerback with size," and Smith obviously fits that mold at 6-foot-3 and 214 pounds. Per Maiocco, the Niners will have to fend off the Eagles, Chiefs, and Buccaneers for Smith. Smith has made it blatantly obvious that he will sign with the highest bidder. Of the aforementioned group, San Francisco easily has the least amount of salary cap room.
